Singer John Park has finally succeeded in his whimsical quest to “summon” a K-pop idol — and this time, it’s IVE’s Gaeul who answered the call.
On the August 25th KST episode of his YouTube series “John or Park”, John introduced a new segment titled “Self Rain Ritual”, a playful take on the Korean tradition of giuje (rain-summoning rituals). While his previous two attempts using aespa songs failed to summon any idols, John switched tactics — this time covering IVE’s latest single 'XOXZ' in his signature smooth baritone.
With dramatic prayers and heartfelt vocals, the performance was humorous yet oddly charming — and to everyone’s surprise, it worked.
“I can’t believe it. The ritual finally worked!” John exclaimed as Gaeul herself stepped into the studio. “Although… it seems only one member was summoned. I think the magic fizzled halfway through,” he joked.
Gaeul laughed and responded, “I heard someone calling me, so I came. But the other five members… not yet,” adding to the friendly banter.
The pair quickly hit it off, bonding over music and games. Gaeul shared that she had watched John Park’s previous content, including his covers and appearances on The Time Hotel. They also played a “Speed Q&A” game and took part in a quirky “lyric interpretation ceremony.”
When Gaeul chose CL’s “LIFTED” for a live rendition, John impressed viewers by adding beatbox harmonies, hyping up the vibe even more.
During their chat, Gaeul revealed the meaning behind “XOXZ,” saying,
“It’s a new phrase we made up — short for ‘Good night, love you, see you in dreams.’”
John was genuinely impressed:
“It’s so cool that IVE coined this. You sound like you invented a whole new language!”
He then humorously switched to English-teacher mode, practicing the pronunciation of “XOXZ” with Gaeul in a scene that showed off his trademark wit and charm.
Closing out the episode, John expressed gratitude:
“This was my third rain ritual attempt, and finally, the heavens responded. Thank you, Gaeul, for making this wish come true.”
With each new episode of “John or Park”, John Park continues to captivate fans with clever concepts, musical surprises, and delightful guest interactions — and now, apparently, supernatural powers.
