The criticism surrounding the use of a a pornographic video sound sample in KATSEYE's song "Gnarly" has reached the group's producer, Bang Si Hyuk.
Recently, producer Pink Slip confirmed in a social media video that the he had used a sound sample from an adult film in "Gnarly". The producer further garnered criticism for revealing this information in a boasting manner as some netizens problematized such a sample being used in a song sung by a group with a minor (Yoonchae).
The hyperpop dance genre's producer lineup also includes Alice Longyu Gao, Slow Rabbit, and 'Hitman' Bang a.k.a Bang Si Hyuk. According to an industry insider, "A group's producer always grants the approval for the final version of a song. It would be near impossible to say that a producer did not know or did not intend for some element to be included in a song. In other words, it can be said that there is no way that producer Bang did not know."
Some netizens noted the existence of a "Clean Edit" version of "Gnarly" as another indicator that the producers were aware of the sound sample use and intentionally included it in the final version.
