Former EXO member Tao will tie the knot with former SM Entertainment trainee Xu Yiyang this October.
According to Chinese media outlets such as Sina Entertainment on August 11 KST, Tao revealed during the recording of a recent variety show that he and Xu Yiyang will hold their wedding ceremony in October.
The couple has been preparing for what has been described as a “wedding of the century” for the past six months. The ceremony is expected to be attended by numerous celebrities and over 100 fans. Special seating will be reserved for fans, and the couple is reportedly considering livestreaming the wedding to include more of them.
Attention is now on whether fellow former EXO member Luhan, with whom Tao has maintained close ties, will attend as a guest. Tao and Luhan have continued their friendship over the years, even performing “Our Tomorrow” together at Luhan’s concert.
Tao debuted with EXO in 2012 but left the group in 2015, filing a lawsuit to terminate his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment. The court ruled in SM’s favor, and Tao has since been active in the Chinese-speaking entertainment industry. Xu Yiyang was introduced as part of SM Rookies in 2016 and is now active in China as a singer and actress.
The two were first embroiled in dating rumors in 2020 and publicly confirmed their relationship in 2023 after four years. They registered their marriage in December last year, becoming a legally married couple.
The couple has also faced speculation about a premarital pregnancy and childbirth. In August last year, Xu Yiyang was reportedly spotted at an OB-GYN clinic in the U.S., and in December, she was seen shopping for baby products. Tao further fueled the rumors after mentioning a child during a livestream before quickly changing the subject. In June, paparazzi footage emerged showing Xu Yiyang’s mother with a nanny holding a baby, sparking renewed “secret birth” speculation. However, both Tao and Xu Yiyang have remained silent on the matter.
In April, Tao made headlines for launching the sanitary pad brand Duowei after learning that a Chinese company had repurchased and resold discarded sanitary pads at discounted prices. Following the brand’s launch, Tao hosted a livestream sales event that generated approximately 22.5 million yuan (~₩4.35 billion / ~$35 million) in just 30 minutes.
