K-pop girl group Purple Kiss (Na Go Eun, Dosie, Ireh, Yuki, Chaein, Swan) is making a return with a refreshing transformation. On July 16 at 6 PM (KST), the group will release their 2nd single album ‘I Miss My...’, headlined by the title track "DOREMI".
The track blends a bright, wistful pluck sound with dreamy lyrics. Member Na Go Eun personally participated in writing the lyrics, which describe a magical incantation — “DOREMI” — that leads listeners from complex realities into a shining paradise of happiness.
This release explores the question “What is happiness?”, tracing longing and wandering before arriving at the message that true happiness lies in the emotions surrounding us in the present moment.
Having previously leaned into powerful, intense concepts, Purple Kiss now embraces a softer, more enchanting image for the summer. “Since we’re singing about happiness, we hope both the public and ourselves can feel happy too,” the members shared.
Q&A with Purple Kiss
Q. It’s been 9 months since your last comeback. How do you feel?
- Swan: We’ve come back after a 9-month break, showcasing a more mature version of ourselves and our musical growth. Both as a group and individually, we’ve improved a lot — and this album reflects that. The dreamy and nostalgic concept suits summer well, so look forward to our visuals and vibe.
- Chaein: We’re back with a song that will make our fans, PLORYs, happy. While preparing for this album, we also kept busy with tours and personal time, trying to show our best selves.
- Ireh: It’s been a while, so I’m nervous, but since we’re returning with a message about happiness, I feel optimistic that it’ll be a joyful promotion.
Q. Why did you choose this concept for your comeback?
- Chaein: Since it’s a summer release, we wanted to show a refreshing side unique to Purple Kiss. Instead of leaning entirely into “bright” or “dark,” we aimed to express our own color.
Q. What was your first impression of ‘DOREMI’?
- Na Go Eun: When I first heard the demo, it sounded bright. But when I shared it with others, they said it felt wistful. That contrast of brightness and sadness intrigued me, and I tried to capture that emotion.
Q. Go Eun, how did you end up writing lyrics for the title track?
- Go Eun: All the members had the opportunity, but my lyrics were selected. I wrote about the journey to find happiness through the magical word “DOREMI.”
Q. You’ve mostly shown a powerful image before. Which concept feels more natural — intense or soft?
- Dosie: I feel more comfortable with the strong concept. Smiling doesn’t come easily to me — I had to practice until my cheeks cramped!
- Swan: I’m more used to the intense concept too, but as the performance of this bright song progresses, the energy builds and it becomes fun.
- Yuki: I’m not sure which I prefer, but I was surprised how well the soft concept suited me after seeing our busking footage — it was a new discovery.
Q. Any new discoveries about each other while preparing this comeback?
- Dosie: Yuki already mentioned it, but she’s a rapper and usually does strong songs. Seeing her do a soft, fairy-like concept was refreshing. She looked beautiful during the busking performance and we all complimented her.
Q. Since this comeback is themed around ‘a spell for happiness,’ do you have any personal mantras or recent happy moments?
- Swan: Before going on stage, I tell myself “I’m the best!” That helps with confidence and fans love that energy. Recently, I felt joy when a stray cat approached me during a walk.
- Dosie: Sometimes I sigh to let out negative feelings, which oddly feels refreshing. One happy moment was coming back from a walk and seeing the members filming videos and welcoming me — it warmed my heart.
- Go Eun: I wasn’t feeling great one day, so I went to a café alone. A little girl gave me a drawing and said, “Have a happy day.” I was really touched and want to give that kind of joy to others.
Q. Looking back on your 5-year journey, what’s your most memorable or happiest moment?
- Ireh: Our three U.S. tours! Every time we performed to a sold-out crowd, I felt overwhelming happiness. Hearing “sold out” made the atmosphere celebratory.
- Go Eun: It’s already our fifth year. We have a group cheer we’ve shouted since debut, and every time we say it before going on stage, it fills me with confidence and joy.
Q. This is your first single of the year. What’s your goal?
- Swan: Purple Kiss has explored more conceptual or niche genres, but ‘DOREMI’ is a more approachable, pop-friendly song. Our biggest goal is to enter the charts. But beyond numbers, we really want everyone — our fans and ourselves — to feel happy during this promotion.
Q. What does happiness mean to you?
- Ireh: I used to try to measure happiness in numbers, but now I believe feeling happy, even briefly, is enough.
- Chaein: I sometimes fear looking silly or immature, but I think those thoughts themselves show sincerity. I feel happiest when I accept my pure self.
- Dosie: As a child, I used to feel sad when summer break ended — because happiness felt like it was over. Now, I can record and remember these moments, which brings comfort. This job teaches me new kinds of happiness.
- Go Eun: Happiness isn’t about intensity, but frequency. I think real happiness is in the small things we feel every day. I hope PLORYs find those little joys in their own busy lives too.
