Oh My Girl’s Arin is set to take on a daring new acting challenge under the name Yoo Jung Hoo, starring in KBS 2TV’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama 'My Girlfriend Is a Tough Man.' The series will premiere on July 23 at 9:50 p.m. KST and is based on the popular Naver webtoon of the same name by artist Masstar.
The story follows Kim Ji Eun, played by Arin, a young woman who suddenly transforms into a handsome man overnight. Her devoted boyfriend Park Yoon Jae, portrayed by ASTRO’s Sanha, refuses to give up on her despite the drastic change. The drama promises a chaotic yet heartwarming romance as the couple navigates their surreal new reality.
The series is directed by Yoo Kwan Mo, known for 'Police University,' 'Woman of 9.9 Billion,' and 'Perfume,' and written by Lee Hae Na, a screenwriter recognized for her solid storytelling skills.
Arin, taking on the stage name Yoo Jung Hoo for this project, portrays Kim Ji Hoon, the male version of Kim Ji Eun following her sudden transformation. While Ji Hoon retains Ji Eun’s thoughts and emotions, he must confront the unexpected attention brought on by his new appearance and deal with the challenges of living in a male body.
Stills from the set have already caught viewers' attention. In one scene, Ji Hoon wakes up to find his body changed. He had fallen asleep wearing a bunny headband and a facial mask, only to wake up with shortened pajamas and bulging muscles that stretch the frilly fabric. Upon seeing his new reflection, Ji Hoon screams in disbelief, setting the tone for the comedy and confusion that follow.
Yoo Jung Hoo brings energy and commitment to the role, delivering a dynamic performance that balances humor and emotional depth. The actor captures Ji Hoon’s inner struggle with expressive aegyo, tearful moments, and flashes of jealousy that reflect the lingering emotions of Kim Ji Eun.
