Actors Lee Jong Won and Kim Do Yeon, formerly of the girl group Weki Meki, have been confirmed as the lead stars of the upcoming drama 'Praying to the Moonflower.'
According to a drama production insider on July 18, “Lee Jong Won and Kim Do Yeon have been officially cast as the main leads of 'Praying to the Moonflower.'”
The drama tells a tragic and sensual love story between Cho Seol, a swordsmith living in a prisoner village, and Baek Je Hui, a general from an enemy state who has defected. Despite the cruel fate that relentlessly pulls them apart, they are irresistibly drawn to each other. What follows is a beautiful yet sorrowful journey towards inevitable ruin.
Lee Jong Won will play Baek Je Hui, the most skilled and ruthless warrior of the Gae Ro Nation. Though he inherits his mother’s striking beauty, the deadly aura in his gaze overwhelms those who look into his eyes. Known for his merciless personality, Baek Je Hui shows no compassion and keeps everyone at a distance.
Kim Do Yeon takes on the role of Yang Cho Seol, a master swordsmith. Though she toils in ash-covered ruins, she remains serene and graceful, like a freshly bloomed peony. Her seemingly delicate presence carries a quiet dignity, and her deep, intelligent eyes command respect even from the roughest of men.
This marks Kim Do Yeon’s first official lead role. She previously portrayed younger versions of lead characters in dramas such as 'One the Woman' (as Lee Hanee’s younger counterpart) and 'Mount Jiri' (as Jun Ji Hyun’s younger counterpart). Since Weki Meki’s disbandment last year, she has shown strong dedication to acting, even studying abroad in the UK to hone her craft. Fans are eagerly anticipating her transformation in this new role.
The script is written by Jang Yoo Ha, known for the Netflix drama 'Doona!,' and production is set to begin soon.
