Actress Im Soo Jung recently shared her experience of working independently for three years without the support of a management agency. Her story highlighted the challenges she faced and the personal growth she experienced during that time.
In a video titled 'Im Krystal Is Coming, Turn the Air Conditioner on Full Blast,' uploaded on July 29 to the YouTube channel TEO’s web variety show 'Salon Drip 2,' Im appeared as a guest and spoke about her upcoming Disney+ drama 'Low Life.'
While discussing her filmography, Im explained that 'Low Life' holds a special meaning for her. She said, "Because I shot it while I was on my own, it is a particularly meaningful piece for me."
She described the reality of not having an agency at the time. “Normally, actors travel to filming locations with their managers, but I either drove myself or asked for help from friends who were available,” she said. “When that wasn’t possible, the directing or production staff would kindly offer me a ride and say, ‘Please, hop in.’ I was always very grateful and made sure to express my thanks.”
Filming often took place in regional cities such as Mokpo and Gwangju, which required long-distance travel. Im revealed that she even drove herself to these locations. “Going through all of that helped me understand how hard the people around me work,” she said. “Even in situations that could be stressful or overwhelming, I became more relaxed and understanding than before.”
Despite the difficulties, Im looked back on the experience with maturity and gratitude. She smiled and clapped as she added, “Now that I have a company again, I feel so happy. Truly happy.” In a 2023 interview, Im explained that after her exclusive contract with KINGKONG by Starship Entertainment ended in 2022, she chose not to renew or sign with another agency right away.
Instead, she focused on rest and took full responsibility for managing her own schedule and career. She mentioned that this choice gave her both freedom and courage.
On November 27, 2024, Im officially announced her new exclusive contract with MYM Entertainment. The agency expressed their excitement in a statement, saying, “We are honored to accompany actress Im Soo Jung, who conveys a deep and sincere presence through her delicate yet powerful performances. With mutual trust, we will fully support her future endeavors and create a strong synergy together.”
