Seventeen years after co-starring in the drama 'East of Eden', Song Seung Hun and Lee Da Hae were recently spotted together again—this time, in China. On June 9, Lee Da Hae posted several photos on her social media account taken at a global launch event for a cosmetic brand held in Hangzhou, China, last month.
While she showcased her look in a sleek black dress, what drew attention was Song Seung Hun standing beside her in group photos with other event personnel. Song was present as the brand’s ambassador, while Lee reportedly attended as a guest. The two share a unique connection.

They acted together in MBC’s epic 56-episode drama East of Eden, which aired from August 2008 to March 2009. However, their on-screen partnership didn’t last until the end—Lee Da Hae abruptly left the series in December 2008. At the time, she cited artistic differences, saying, “I didn’t want to continue giving a false performance,” and expressed difficulty in relating to her character.
She posted a heartfelt message on the drama’s viewer forum, stating, “I feel deeply sorry, but I don’t think I can continue acting in this emotional and physical condition. I didn’t want my character to appear foolish due to lines or actions that felt untrue to me.”

Lee’s sudden departure caused a ripple effect, eventually reaching Song Seung Hun, who had to address the issue publicly. He posted a message on the show’s website expressing regret and apologizing on behalf of the cast. He clarified that he first learned of Lee’s departure through the media and emphasized that he had no involvement in her decision. “In some reports, it was suggested that Lee Da Hae left because of my demands. That is absolutely untrue,” he said at the time, adding, “As a fellow actor, I can understand her decision.” East of Eden was a high-budget drama with over 25 billion KRW invested, but behind the scenes, health issues, writer changes, and creative differences led to major shifts in casting and direction.
The recent reunion in China has caught attention not because of a new collaboration, but because of the complicated and emotional history they shared 17 years ago—a story of neither good nor bad ties, but a uniquely fated connection.
