Jennie’s first full-length solo album ‘Ruby’ has earned critical acclaim, being named one of the best albums of 2025 so far by two major U.S. music publications — Rolling Stone and Complex.
On June 5 (local time), Rolling Stone unveiled its list of The Best Albums of 2025 So Far, with ‘Ruby’ included among the standout selections. The magazine praised Jennie’s reinterpretation of R&B-driven pop, stating: “She reimagines the ideas that dominated 2000s and 2010s R&B-driven pop in compelling ways. Jennie not only has the commanding presence to own the sugary pop-R&B space, but there are also moments of introspection reminiscent of Rihanna’s 2016 album ‘Anti’.”
Complex also named ‘Ruby’ one of the best albums of the year so far, calling it a defining moment in Jennie’s career. The publication wrote: “Ruby opens a new chapter for Jennie, allowing her to fully showcase her wide vocal range.” The outlet highlighted tracks like ‘Like JENNIE’, which demonstrated her strong pop sensibilities and stage presence, and ‘Twin’, a ballad that revealed a softer, more delicate side of her vocal performance.
In addition to the music, Complex noted the high production value of the album’s visuals, emphasizing that Jennie released seven music videos with polished, cinematic quality to complement the record.
Notably, Jennie was the only K-pop artist to be featured on both Rolling Stone and Complex’s best-of lists, underscoring her continued influence on the global music scene.
‘Ruby’ includes 15 diverse tracks — including the title track ‘Like JENNIE’ — and was entirely produced by Jennie herself. The album captures her unique artistic identity and reaffirms her limitless potential as a solo musician.
