The year of the 'concrete wall' music charts - only 4 artists have managed to top Melon's 'Daily Chart' in 2025

Many industry insiders have deemed 2025's domestic music charts as a "concrete wall". Seemingly more so than in recent years, this year's charts are being called "impenetrable", making it impossible for new songs to break through and enter the top ranks against the chart's solid steady sellers.

In fact, with June less than a day away, Korean netizens have pointed out that only 4 artists have managed to reach the coveted #1 spot on the 'Daily Chart' on Melon, South Korea's most widely used streaming platform, as of May 31 KST.

First, G-Dragon's "Home Sweet Home" with Taeyang and Daesung, released in November of 2024, topped Melon's 'Daily Chart' 40 times in 2025. Next, IVE's "Rebel Heart" took up the #1 spot 15 times after its release in January of 2025. G-Dragon then once again dominated the 'Daily Chart' a total of 61 times with "Too Bad", after which Jennie of BLACKPINK stirred things up with "Like JENNIE" landing at #1 a total of 14 times. Finally, the latest 'Daily Chart' topper, currently at a count of 19 times and counting, is 10cm's "To Reach You", released on March 6. Of the 4 artists - IVE, G-Dragon, Jennie, and 10cm - only G-Dragon has managed to score two #1 hits.

The 'Daily Chart', which reflects user streams (40%) and downloads (60%) on Melon within the last 24 hours, differs from the 'Top 100' chart, a chart unique to Melon which combines user data from the last 24 hours with user data from the last hour, except for during the hours of 1 AM ~ 7 AM. Notably, songs which have successfully topped Melon's 'Top 100', in addition to the 5 songs which also topped the 'Daily Chart' above, include PLAVE's "Dash", WOODZ's "Drowning", Seventeen's "Thunder", and most recently, IU's "Never Ending Story".

Meanwhile, below is the top 10 from Melon's 'Daily Chart' for May 30 KST, with 10cm's "To Reach You" still going strong at #1.
