On May 31, former SeeYa member Kim Yeon Ji gave fans a heartfelt update on her recovery following vocal cord surgery, revealing that she has been unable to speak for over a month.
Through a video titled "What If a Singer of 20 Years Can No Longer Speak?" uploaded to her YouTube channel, Kim candidly opened up about her struggles and the healing process.
Previously, Kim was diagnosed with a vocal cord cyst and underwent surgery to remove it. Two days after the operation, she shared her discomfort, saying, “It hurts a lot every time I swallow. My shoulders and my whole body ache,” while sipping warm water in an effort to ease the pain.
During her recovery, her family surrounded her with care and affection, preparing elaborate meals and supporting her through every step. Unable to speak, Kim communicated with her loved ones by writing on paper. For the first week post-surgery, she focused solely on healing.
Carrying a heavy heart, Kim returned to the hospital to hear the results of the procedure. Attempting to speak for the first time in a week, she confessed, “I wasn’t sure if I could make a sound. It felt scary and uncomfortable.” Although the cyst was successfully removed, bruising remained, and her condition would need further monitoring. “My voice feels stiff,” she admitted. “I’m a bit worried, but I’m trying to stay strong. I feel relieved that the cyst is gone.”
Now in her fourth week of vocal rest, Kim opened up about the emotional toll of her recovery. “I’ve been doing okay, but the frustration of not being able to talk and the anxiety about using my voice again have started to get to me. I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, but now that it’s the fourth week, I feel strange and a bit scared,” she confessed.
Despite her fears, Kim expressed gratitude for the quiet time she’s had to reflect and heal. “Having this time alone after the surgery allowed me to process my emotions. Thanks to the warm support from my family, colleagues, and fans, I think I’ve been able to get through it.”
