Former Cignature member YeAh (Kim Haeun) has revealed the shocking reason behind why she left the group in 2021.

C9 Entertainment girl group Cignature made headlines with their disbandment six months ago. The news took fans by surprise, as Cignature had only been a group for four years, after debuting in 2020. Yet, the group had also undergone some surprising lineup changes previously, with main vocalist YeAh and main rapper Sunn leaving the group in 2021. While the reasons for their dismissal from the group were previously unknown, with C9 Entertainment only stating that the two had “announced they would be leaving the group,” YeAh has now revealed her own story.

In a candid post on YeAh’s personal Instagram, where she now goes by her real name Kim Haeun, Haeun explained that her contract was terminated due to her not being able to reach a low enough weight. She revealed that the company’s weight and diet requirements for idols were extremely strict, leading her to engage in disordered eating habits to try to meet her assigned goal weight. Haeun stated that both before and after debuting, the company required mandatory daily weigh-ins, and strictly controlled what she was allowed to eat. She stated that due to the stress caused by this, she would often get hives, and lie awake crying at night.

One week, an unnamed member of Cignature ‘cheated’ at their daily weigh-in in order to appear at a lower weight. The company punished the entire group for this, and Haeun explained that for 2 weeks, the members were kicked out of their dorms and forbidden to use social media. They were told that if any member failed to reach their goal weight by the end of the two weeks, it would show that they were “unwilling to work hard enough to stay in the group”.

Ultimately, Haeun was unable to meet the target weight, and as a result, the company terminated her contract and forced her to leave the group.

Haeun finished her post by saying that although her days as an idol are over now, she still enjoys singing and dancing. Haeun states that ‘season 2’ of her life is starting now, symbolizing her new beginning.
