In the wake of ongoing controversies surrounding the private lives of leading actors Kim Soo Hyun and Jung Woo Sung, Disney+ has maintained a cautious and reserved stance, offering limited commentary and withholding details on any potential risks or contractual actions.

One of the main focuses at the recent 'Disney+ Open House event' in Seoul was the fate of 'Knock-Off,' a Disney+ original series initially scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year. The show’s premiere has been indefinitely postponed following a personal scandal involving lead actor Kim Soo Hyun.

When asked about the current status or any updates regarding Knock-Off’s release, Choi Yeon Woo, Head of Local Content at Walt Disney Company Korea, stated carefully, Disney+ made an internal decision to postpone the release, and that remains our official position. There have been no further updates since.”

When pressed about whether Disney+ might seek penalties or damages from Kim Soo Hyun with estimates ranging from tens to hundreds of billions of Korean KRW, Choi replied, “It is difficult to answer,” choosing not to elaborate.

The discussion also included 'Made in Korea,' another highly anticipated Disney+ series starring Jung Woo Sung whose personal life has also sparked controversy.

Set in the turbulent 1970s, the series follows the ambitious Baek Gi Tae played by Hyun Bin and the determined prosecutor Jung Gun Young played by Jung Woo Sung as they navigate a massive, era-defining scandal. Directed by Woo Min Ho known for acclaimed films like 'Inside Men,' and 'The Man Standing Next.' 'Made in Korea' is scheduled for release later this year.

At the event, Choi responded to questions regarding the controversy surrounding Jung Woo Sung has intensified following reports that he acknowledged being the father of model Moon Ga Bi’s child but refused to take on the role of Moon Ga Bi’s husband. Choi stated, “As this pertains to the actor’s private life, it is difficult for us to comment.”

Both actors’ personal controversies have significantly impacted Disney+’s content release schedule with 'Knock-Off' remaining on indefinite hold and 'Made in Korea' poised for release under a veil of discretion. Disney+ appears to be exercising considerable caution as it balances corporate interests with public and media scrutiny over its star talent and content lineup.
