Actress Choi Yeo Jin has spoken out to address the rumors surrounding her fiancé directly, setting the record straight ahead of their upcoming wedding.
On May 28, MBC's 'Radio Star' released a video titled "Choi Yeo Jin Reveals the Truth Behind the Endless Chain of Rumors?!" In the video, Choi responded to several unfounded claims circulating online about her soon-to-be husband. These included allegations that he is the son of a major conglomerate chairman and the leader of a religious group.
Choi explained that the rumor about him being the son of the chairman of H Group likely stemmed from a slight resemblance. "He does look a little like the chairman," she said. Host Kim Gu Ra added, "I know someone from that family. Your fiancé may resemble the chairman, but the actual heirs have different features because their mother is very beautiful." Laughing, Choi replied, "So are you saying my husband is not good-looking? That's why people say he might be an illegitimate child."
She then addressed the more serious accusation that her fiancé is a religious cult leader. "That rumor is completely baseless," she said. "There are wealthy religious foundations in Gapyeong, and because my fiancé's business is named 'XX Eden,' people assumed the worst."
She continued, "I have a city-girl image, and people couldn’t understand why I would date someone with a different look. They said I must have been brainwashed or manipulated. Some even claimed I had my phone taken away and kept in a plastic bag as part of mind control."
Choi explained that her previous comments about her fiancé taking care of her "like a mom or dad" were also misinterpreted. "I never actually called him that, but people said it was a sign of religious influence," she said.
The actress also mentioned rumors related to polygamy and symbols. "His ex-wife even appeared on a show to clarify things, but people still said he must belong to a group that practices polygamy. Even the crown I wore on my birthday was said to look like a religious symbol," she said.
When asked by Lee Kyeong Shil if her fiancé has a religion, Choi replied, "Yes, he is a Christian. That is why he named the business 'XX Eden.' Our dogs are named Adam, Eve, Abraham, and Noah. He attends a local church and is learning to play the piano there."
Choi admitted she initially laughed off the rumors. "At first, the stories were so ridiculous that I just laughed. But they kept spreading and got out of control," she said.
Choi Yeo Jin is set to marry her fiancé, Kim Jae Wook, a divorced businessman who is seven years older than her, on June 1.
