On Channel A’s Family Beyond Borders, Lee Hye Won made a surprising confession: she lived in Singapore for two years with her son Ri Hwan without informing her husband, Ahn Jung Hwan.
In episode 81 of Family Beyond Borders, airing on Thursday, May 1 at 8:10 PM KST, MCs Ahn Jung Hwan, Lee Hye Won, Yoo Se Yoon, and Song Jin Woo, along with French representative Fabien, Italian representative Cristina, and American representative Chris, gather in the studio as families from Singapore, France, and Tunisia share unique glimpses of daily life overseas that are rarely seen by the general public.
Making their first appearance as the "Singapore Family," Yoon Ji Young and Tomoyuki greet viewers with their two sons, Ray and Luca. Yoon Ji Young shares, "I met my husband through a blind date while working as a fashion model in my twenties, and we eventually married. We now live in Singapore."
Hearing this, Lee Hye Won chimes in, "I also lived in Singapore for about two years," revealing, "I studied abroad there with my son Ri Hwan so he could pursue music."
Explaining why she and her son moved alone to Singapore, Lee Hye Won says, "At the time, Ahn Jung Hwan was opposed to Ri Hwan pursuing music." She adds, "Wanting to support Ri Hwan, I decided to move to Singapore without telling Ahn Jung Hwan. It was half a voluntary decision and half unavoidable."
Ahn Jung Hwan candidly admits, "Maybe it was just my thinking, but I believed pursuing music would make life difficult and uncertain. I think I was too rigid in my thinking."
Lee Hye Won warmly responds, "You went through a tough time yourself as an athlete, so you knew better than anyone how hard a difficult path can be," showing their strong bond as a couple.
In a heartwarming atmosphere, Lee Hye Won also comments, "Living in Singapore was wonderful, except for the high cost of living..." trailing off.
The "Singapore Family" agrees, explaining that "As of 2022, Singapore is ranked the most expensive country in the world," noting that a compact car can cost around 200 million KRW (~150,000 USD) and even a car license plate costs about the same.
Fortunately, the Singapore Family introduces "smart living strategies" for surviving in Singapore despite the sky-high costs, capturing the attention of the studio cast.
