Speculation is swirling as rumors suggest that Netflix is planning to expand the 'Squid Game' universe. A viral photo depicting a "Squid Game Cinematic Universe" presentation is circulating online.

The image shows several alleged upcoming projects, including 'Squid Game 3' (Summer 2025), 'Squid Game USA' (Fall 2026), 'Squid Game 1987' (Winter 2026), 'Squid Game 28th' (Spring 2027), and 'Squid Game World' (Winter 2028).

Korean netizens have begun speculating that Netflix is developing spin-offs of the global megahit series that captivated audiences in 2022.

One netizen brought to attention an interview with director Hwang Dong Hyuk regarding the series. In the interview, Director Hwang confirmed that 'Squid Game Season 3' would mark the series' conclusion. He explained, "It’s true that Season 3 will be the finale. I’ve conveyed everything I wanted to express through this series, so continuing beyond that doesn't hold meaning for me. I want to be clear that Season 3 will be the final chapter."

However, the director hinted at the possibilities of spin-offs explaining, "That said, I have thought about derivative stories—what people often call side stories or spin-offs. I remember mumbling to myself, ‘Wouldn't it be fun to explore these characters’ stories?’ like a madman."

While it has not been confirmed whether the presentation is official, the potential for the 'Squid Game' universe expansion has been generating much buzz online.

Korean netizens commented:

"It's good to expand the universe."
"This sounds so interesting."
"I wonder if Korean actors would be cast for the spin-offs"
"The universe expanding is very interesting."
"The 'Squid Game USA' sounds exciting too."
"Squid Game is Netflix's megahit, so it would be a shame to end with Season 3."
"I think it would be fun if different countries release their version of 'Squid Game'."
"I'm happy that a series that can expand that much was released from Korea."
"I'm so proud that 'Squid Game' was released in Korea."
"I'm looking forward to this project."
"Is this official?"
"I can't wait for these spin-offs to be released."
"I'm already looking forward to season 3."
"They're going to keep releasing more spin-offs until everyone gets tired. lol."
"I want to see the 1987 one. That sounds really interesting."
"I don't think 'Squid Game 1987' would be in Korea since that's around the time of the 1988 Olympics."
"I wonder what 1987 is about."
