The female BJ (Broadcast Jockey) who blackmailed Kim Junsu, a member of TVXQ and a musical actor, and extorted approximately 800 million KRW (approximately 549,157 USD) could face a seven-year prison sentence.
According to News1, prosecutors requested a seven-year prison sentence for the female streamer, identified as 'A,' during a trial on charges of extortion. The trial took place on January 16 at the Uijeongbu District Court’s 1st Criminal Division, presided over by Judge Oh Chang Seop.
During the trial, A's defense attorney argued, "She was addicted to propofol, which impaired her ability to make rational decisions, and committed the crime to fund her drug habit." They also claimed, "She is reflecting on her actions and did not approach the victim with a premeditated plan to record conversations. Part of the money obtained was used to pay hospital bills for her father, who is battling prostate cancer."
A, who previously worked as a streamer on the video platform 'Soop' (formerly AfreecaTV), was accused of blackmailing Junsu and extorting approximately 800 million KRW in cash and valuables from September 2020 to November last year.
It was reported that 'A' recorded private conversations with Junsu for illegal purposes and later threatened to distribute the recordings on social media.
Junsu filed a lawsuit stating that he initially met 'A' under the impression that she was a nail artist, only to have valuables extorted over five years.
Junsu's agency, Palm Tree Island, commented, "A continued her threats solely because Kim Junsu is a celebrity. We will respond firmly to such acts that exploit public attention."
