On January 29, actress Kim Hye Soo shared a humorous yet relatable reason for stepping away from the Blue Dragon Film Awards, citing the exhausting dieting routine required to fit into glamorous dresses.
Her candid remarks came during an interview for the Disney+ series 'Unmasked,' released on January 28 via the 'PDC by PDC' channel. The interview also featured her co-stars, Jung Sung Il and Joo Jong Hyuk.
When asked about rumors that she quit the Blue Dragon Film Awards to avoid wearing dresses, Kim Hye Soo laughed and confirmed, "That's right. I was too tired of starving at year-end." The actress, known for her stunning red-carpet appearances, revealed that maintaining her figure for such events often required extreme measures.
Reflecting on her experience during the Trigger promotional event in Singapore, Kim shared a funny anecdote. "After the drama ended, I ate a lot of unnecessary things and gained some weight. I even wondered if I could go to Singapore," she admitted. "Before boarding the plane, I ate a lot. Then, on the plane, Jung Sung Il ordered food, so I did too and ate a lot. I panicked afterward, thinking, 'I have to wear a dress tomorrow.'"
Upon arriving in Singapore, Kim faced another challenge during her dress fitting. "The dress was tighter than my current size, and it was hard to zip up. I thought, 'What should I do?' Then Jung Sung Il said, 'I’m going to run today,' so I joined him," she recalled. "Since it was an official event, they assigned a guard to accompany us. My guard was a woman, and she briefly stepped aside only to reappear on a bicycle, following us as we ran."
Thanks to their impromptu running session, Kim achieved the perfect fit for her dress. "The next day, the zipper went up smoothly. Our stylist even bowed to Jung Sung II in gratitude," she added with a laugh.
Kim Hye Soo's lighthearted storytelling not only highlighted her dedication to her craft but also showcased the camaraderie and teamwork behind the scenes. Her fans were delighted by her honesty and humor, proving once again why she remains one of Korea's most beloved actresses.
