Former IZ*ONE member Lee Chae Yeon has taken a strong stance against malicious commenters.
On December 23, Lee Chae Yeon’s agency, WM Entertainment, released a statement saying, “We would like to address the ongoing malicious comments and slander targeting our artist, Lee Chae Yeon, on online platforms and social media. These actions constitute serious criminal behavior that damages the artist's honor and character. We are committed to taking strong measures against such malicious slander, defamation, personal attacks, and the reckless dissemination and reproduction of false information through continuous monitoring.”
The agency emphasized, “We will pursue strong legal action without leniency against any illegal activities that arise moving forward. WM Entertainment remains dedicated to protecting the rights of our artist and will do our utmost to support both our artist and the fans who cheer for her.”
This comes after Lee Chae Yeon expressed support for fans participating in an impeachment rally against President Yoon on December 7 via a fan communication platform.
When concerns were raised about her comments, Lee Chae Yeon responded, "Am I not in a position to talk about politics?" She added, "As a citizen and as a member of the public, I’ll do as I see fit. I’ll decide what I want to talk about, too. I’m a celebrity, and that’s why I’m using my voice. I know very well that people worry about idols making these kinds of statements. But I’m also a citizen."
Following this incident, many netizens expressed their support for Lee Chae Yeon. However, some criticized her statements, leading to a surge of malicious comments.
