Actor Jung Woo Sung, who recently became wrapped up in a paternity scandal, made a public appearance at the '45th Blue Dragon Film Awards' held on November 29 KST.
On this day, the film '12.12: The Day', directed by Kim Sung Su, was recognized as the 'Most Viewed Film' of the year. As a leading cast member of the film, Jung Woo Sung stepped up to deliver his remarks of gratitude.
He said, "I am here today hoping that my personal matters do not leave a negative stain on the film '12.12: The Day' or those who were involved in its making. I also relay my deepest apologies for causing concern and disappointment to all those who have supported me and had expectations of me. I will be the one to bear all of the criticism and the responsibility. And as a father, I will fulfill my duty to my son until the end."
However, Jung Woo Sung's remarks were not received favorably by audiences, as many criticized him for "treating the 'Blue Dragon Awards' as his own press conference". They also berated him for making no mention of the audiences who contributed to the recognition of '12.12: The Day' as the most-viewed film of the year, instead taking up time during the ceremony only to address his personal scandal.
Netizens commented,
"The fact that he's saying that is one heck of a nuisance to the film's crew kekekekekeke. Why is he apologizing for his personal issues here."
"Why is he there..."
"Write a letter by hand and upload it to your Instagram or something dude, why are you saying unnecessary things in front of your colleagues."
"Looks like someone doesn't understand how to separate work and private matters."
"You look pathetic."
"This isn't your personal press conference."
"No one wants to hear that right now at this important ceremony."
"He thinks he's somebody important, taking up people's time just for his own apology."
"Say something about the movie dude."
"I regret going to see '12.12' in theaters twice."
"Okay but why is the audience clapping like what did he do right?"
"He's clearly not sorry at all. If he were, he would've stayed home instead of making this film's achievements all about him."
Furthermore, many netizens directed words of criticism toward the '45th Blue Dragon Awards' on this day for failing to "fulfill its proper duties to the Korean film industry", giving Jung Woo Sung time to apologize for his personal matters but making no effort to commemorate the late actress Kim Soo Mi, who passed away last month on October 25.
