CJ ENM's annual K-Pop award ceremony, the '2024 MAMA Awards', has unveiled the addition of a new award category, as well as updated judging criteria for its most prestigious awards such as 'Album of the Year'.
First, the new award category being added at this year's 'MAMA Awards' is 'Best Choreography'. The award will recognize K-pop choreographers and artists who have contributed to K-Pop's global success by creating the synchronized dance moves and visually-captivating performances that the genre is known for.
Next, new judging criteria established for prestigious categories will reflect the multifaceted success of artists, songs, albums and music videos. For example, the 'Album of the Year' category will no longer be judged solely upon sales, but will now take into account the album's entire package, including the production quality, art and visuals, individual songs, its impact on the music industry, and more.
Meanwhile, the '2024 MAMA Awards' will open on November 21 PST at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, followed by a 2-day show at the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan from November 22-23 KST / JST. Nominees for the '2024 MAMA Awards' will be announced on October 14 at 6 PM KST.
