Girls' Generation's Sooyoung talked about the plans for the group.
On September 9, a new video titled "SNSD&SJ are here for 30 minutes to bring back the memories | Ep.1 SNSD Sooyoung" was uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘DNE comment 'Hey, Come here.'’
In this episode, guest Sooyoung reminisced about her time as a trainee at SM Entertainment alongside Donghae and Eunhyuk. Donghae and Eunhyuk said, “When setting up the group, positions are important. We used to call Siwon, Kibum, Heechul, and Han Geng the Four Heavenly Kings.”
Donghae shared, “When it was time to take pictures, Siwon, Hangeng, Kibum, and Heechul would stand in front first,” to which Eunhyuk added, “And then the rest of us would stand around awkwardly, like, ‘Should I try standing here?’”
Eunhyuk also talked about some trainee stories. He said, “We have a song called ‘Step by Step.’ We practiced this song even before our debut track. We would stand in a V-formation, and I was at the tip, dancing in the center.”
However, Eunhyuk continued, “But then the noonas (older females) started whispering, and soon, my position was switched with Siwon’s. Siwon moved to the center, and I was moved to the side. I was upset at first, but when I saw the monitor footage, I realized it made sense. I thought, ‘Their eyes are sharp.’”
Sooyoung shared a similar experience. “In our case, YoonA, Yuri, and Seohyun would take the center in a triangular formation. But I didn’t pay attention to that. I just thought, ‘I’ll do my best from the side.’ But as time passed, I started wondering, ‘Couldn’t I get a chance, too?’”
Eunhyuk empathized, saying, “In some songs, other members could stand in the center." Sooyoung added, “I have legs, too. For example, in ‘Genie,’ I could’ve done it. It felt like the center roles were always fixed. Everyone knows YoonA is beautiful. We get it. But there were moments when I thought, ‘Couldn’t they rotate a bit and give me at least three seconds more?’ But looking back now, the executives were right.”
The conversation then shifted to Girls’ Generation’s future activities. Donghae mentioned, “I heard you all recently gathered for Tiffany’s birthday and to celebrate Girls’ Generation’s 17th anniversary.” Sooyoung explained, “Every time we gather, we set a dress code. This time, it was Tiffany’s birthday, so we had an all-white dress code. But Yuri, after seeing the theme, decided on her own to wear black and white.”
Listening to this, Donghae asked, “Why don’t you just release another album?” Sooyoung responded, “The thing is, Girls’ Generation has a certain level of perfection we’ve always maintained with our albums. Our time together is so precious, and we’ve discussed that if we’re going to use that time to create an album, we should aim for the next one.”
Donghae then asked, “So, can we look forward to another album? Maybe for the 20th anniversary?” Sooyoung replied, “Of course. There's just three years left until the 20th anniversary. I really want to do a concert tour, but we tried before, and it’s hard to match up everyone’s schedules.”
