According to a report by Yonhap News on June 4, it was revealed that a female police officer, 'A' in her thirties, affiliated with the Chungnam Police Department, used the police intranet to obtain the home address of a famous trot singer. It was later reported that 'A' directly visited the trot singer's residence in Seoul without permission.

Although the female police officer did not cause harm, the trot singer reported the incident to the police out of concern.

During the subsequent police investigation, it was discovered that the police officer obtained the home address of the famous trot singer through the police intranet (internal network). However, the identity of the trot singer has not been disclosed.

The Chungnam Police Department has reportedly suspended the female police officer in question and initiated disciplinary proceedings.

This isn't the first instance of unauthorized use or access of personal information by the police. In 2014, a police officer was sentenced to imprisonment for illegally accessing the personal information of debtors through a computer network.

On the 29th of last month, a former police officer received a suspended prison sentence for leaking personal information of suspects in a case he handled. Additionally, on the 27th, a current police officer was handed over to the prosecution for leaking investigative information to his accomplice in a voice phishing organization.

On May 20, the police applied for a warrant to arrest a former police officer accused of impersonating a detective and illegally obtaining the personal information of seven women in their 30s.

Meanwhile, the Chungnam Police Department is investigating the female police officer for violation of the Personal Information Protection Act. Violation of the Personal Information Protection Act carries a penalty of up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million KRW (36,380 USD).
