#Jin's 'The Astronaut' as the Best Kpop Song of the Year in 'Teen Vogue'

It's been almost two months since Jin released his beautiful solo single, 'The Astronaut.' The song has achieved tremendous success and bagged Jin multiple nominations at the Gaon Chart Music Awards, Seoul Music Awards, and Hanteo Awards. He also holds the record of the highest debut and peak on the Billboard Hot100 for K-pop solo debuts (#51).

Jin wrote the lyrics, worked with the demo, co-produced and co-composed the track. His performance at the Coldplay concert in Argentina went viral on TikTok. Jin demonstrated a powerful performance, flexing his vocal strength. Many Korean celebrities, such as Jung Woo-sung, Park Seoham, N.flying, Lee Sangyeob, Kim Namgil, Ji Seokjin, and more have shown their support towards the song. Jin is the highest-ranking soloist on the Rolling Stone list of the Best Songs of 2022.

Even a member of the KMA committee, Kim Do Heon, praised the song and Jin's talent:

'It is the most impressive song among the solo activities of BTS members this year. Jin's voice is very powerful as he sings the themes that remind you of 'Moon' and 'Mikrokosmos.' With the participation of Kygo and Max Martin, the sound quality came out excellent. Meanwhile, the sound of Coldplay in the melody is lively with a new voice.'

Kim Do Heon said that it was the most impressive song from BTS this year. Jin was the co-writer or the only author of all of his solo songs and they always get selected as one of the best songs in BTS' entire discography. For example, 'Moon' was even named the 5th best Boyband Song in history and the 7th best song of 2020 by Rolling Stone magazine.

On December 15, a respected journalist, Kim Jae-ha, tweeted about 'The Astronaut' on her personal Twitter account. She is a journalist that has written for famous outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Rolling Stone, and New York Times. She wrote a column for Teen Vogue magazine about the Best K-pop Songs of 2022.

"I selected Jin's "The Astronaut" as the Best Kpop Song of the Year. He's always had the ability to express vulnerability in songs like the glorious EPIPHANY. Here the @BTS_twt vocalist exhibits defiant strength, promising: “You & me/A never-ending history.”

Kim Jae-ha selected Jin's solo single as the Best K-pop Song of the Year! Here's a column she wrote for Teen Vogue:

"Before he enlisted for South Korea’s mandatory military duty earlier this week, Jin recorded “The Astronaut” for his ARMY. Co-written with Coldplay, the song is a lush pop creation that showcases the BTS member’s vocal range and emotive qualities. Jin has explored the universe paradigm in his music previously (“Moon”), but knowing that it will be another 18 months before he returns as a civilian makes this release both precious and bittersweet. Jin has always had the ability to express vulnerability in songs like the glorious “Epiphany.” But here, he also exhibits defiant strength, promising listeners, “You and me, a never ending history.”

Kim Jae-ha pointed out Jin's impressive vocal range and the complicated emotions each of his solo songs contains.
