Slip into the Diamond Life: SEVENTEEN's B-Sides You Should Listen to

AKP STAFF

When it comes to talking about SEVENTEEN's talent and success, no words are enough (pun intended), as their immaculate discography and uncontested performance speak for themselves. Each album is a remarkable proof of the intensive hard work that they put into each of their songs, making each song special, even if they are not the title tracks. This is also because they are one of the several outstanding K-pop groups whose members are all personally involved in the creation of the song, from producing, composing, and writing lyrics.

It can be extremely hard to choose which among all the B-sides of SEVENTEEN takes the cake, but there are some B-sides that can surely steal the hearts of non-fans, casual listeners, and CUBICs; to welcome them to the diamond life!

"Shining Diamond"

Album: 17 Carat

The very origin of the catchphrase "Slip into the diamond life," the song is the first track of SEVENTEEN's debut album, "17 Carat", and was also used as the pre-single on the group's reality debut show, 'Seventeen Project.' Produced, written, and choreographed by the members themselves, the song perfectly reflected the unending passion and the hard work of SEVENTEEN. The song hits harder once you read the lyrics and realize that they shone even greater through the years like a diamond.

"Rock"

Album: Boys Be

The last track of the second mini-album, "Boys Be," "Rock," is a song that can take you to the top and straight down like a gyro drop! The performance is a sure scene-stealer, plus the lyrics can make your heart pound and get lost in the vast ocean. The delightful vocals and the remarkable high notes among the vocal unit members make the song even better.

"Hit Song"

Album: Love & Letter

SEVENTEEN's first full-length album, "Love & Letter," has ten tracks, all of which mainly focus on the experience of one's first love. The album's fourth track, "Hit Song," delivers first love away from its usually romantic aspect as it acts as a song to CARATs, hoping that the song and their sincere lyrics would remind the fans of SEVENTEEN no matter where they are or whoever they may meet.

"Love Letter"

Album: Love & Letter

Yet another track from their first full-length album, the tenth track, "Love Letter," is a perfect derivation from the album's name and the perfect representation of the main concept of the album's tracks. Once more, this is a song written towards the CARATs, a promise that SEVENTEEN will always be by their side. The lyrics include candid feelings, from the process of writing a letter to the admission that there are several words that are left unsaid as there are no words that would ever suffice.

"Healing"

Album: Love & Letter Repackage Album

Following the "Love & Letter" album, they released their first repackaged album with five new tracks in addition to the ten tracks of the earlier album. Alongside the arguably most widely known SEVENTEEN songs, "Very Nice," also known as "Aju Nice," the other tracks were great as well! The album's third track, "Healing," is the perfect song to listen to if you want to take off from the pressures of our daily lives and take a short rest for a while. The song embodies its title, from the soothing vocals to the heartwarming lyrics that feel like a hand you can hold.

"Fast Pace"

Album: Going Seventeen

"Going Seventeen," the third mini-album of SEVENTEEN, includes eight tracks, with its fifth track being "Fast Pace." The song includes a great melody that can give off sexy vibes, partnered with the smooth choreography by SEVENTEEN. As the title implies, the song's lyrics focus on how their significant other seemingly walks at a much faster pace, making them further away from each other.

"Smile Flower"

Album: Going Seventeen

From the same album, the eighth and last track is "Smile Flower," which can be very emotional and sentimental whenever you listen to it. The song feels like a tight hug, particularly with its lyrics such as "As always, we make our smile flowers bloom, I’ll be the spring to your smile," hence the title. The song is a hope to remain side by side and to be able to laugh and cry as long as they are together.

"Crazy in Love"

Album: Al1

Al1 is their fourth mini-album, with a total of eight tracks, with its sixth track, "Crazy in Love." The song is also characterized by its sexy melody and choreography, with its lyrics narrating the concept of being crazy in love. The lyrics start off telling how they first heard of it from movies and shows until they finally understood how it felt as they experienced it first hand.

"Campfire"

Album: Teen, Age

SEVENTEEN's second full-length album, "Teen, Age," has thirteen tracks, with its twelfth song being "Campfire." The song carefully uses the campfire as a comparison to what they are feeling, from sitting around and staring at it, something that shines ever brightly under the night sky, to continuously lighting up for each other- a love that would never go out.

"Run to You"

Album: Director's Cut

"Director's Cut," SEVENTEEN's first special album, includes all their songs from the album "Teen, Age," and four new songs. Its third track, "Run to You," is an upbeat song that would actually fit a teen drama as its opening track or an OST of a slice-of-life anime. However, behind its upbeat sound, the song incorporated sad lyrics due to the seemingly distanced love but mixed with hopeful lyrics, promising that no matter what distance, they will continue running to you.

"Our Dawn Is Hotter Than Day"

Album: You Make My Day

The sixth track of the album "You Make My Day," "Our Dawn Is Hotter Than Day," can be one of the most comforting tracks ever among SEVENTEEN's discography. The enchanting melody can surely warm your heart and can truly soothe anyone's troubled mind like an embrace. The song revolves around the title, a night that is warmer than any day because of the memories they shared during the dawn.

"Getting Closer"

Album: You Made My Dawn

The album "You Made My Dawn" has six tracks, and its sixth and last track is "Getting Closer." The very energetic beat accompanied by intricate choreography perfectly suits the lyrics, which implies hope and initiative. From the title itself, they wanted to get closer because they are their one and only, and as they inevitably feel drawn to them.

"Snap Shoot"

Album: An Ode

Track ten of the third studio album, "An Ode," "Snap Shoot" is a fan favorite and probably a track that will get you to stan SEVENTEEN! With the title, you can guess that it focuses on wordplays and lyrics referencing photography, and it can leave you with a warm, blooming feeling, similar to that of when you are starting to have a crush on someone.

"My My"

Album: Heng:garæ

"Heng:garæ" is SEVENTEEN's seventh mini album, and their forte—young and happy concepts, was surely evident in most tracks as they deliver a message of encouragement for the youth, urging them to dream and run toward a new world together. "My My" is probably the perfect representation of the concept, filled with beats of happiness and lyrics that will bring you a huge smile, reminding you that no one can ever decide for you because your journey is yours.

"Kidult"
Album: Heng:garæ

Yet another delightful track from the album, "Heng:garæ," its fifth track, "Kidult," is surely one to touch your heart that could hit even harder if you look back to how young SEVENTEEN trained in the so-called 'Melona Prison' and grew with them together. The lyrics tugs into one's inner child that despite the cruel world faced by your adult side it is more than fine to cry like a kid and be immature at moments.

"All My Love"

Album: Semicolon

SEVENTEEN's second special album, "Semicolon," has brought us the most awaited songs from each age unit of the group, alongside two more tracks. "All My Love," the sixth and last track of the album, welcomes you with its very honest lyricism- revolving into the genuine love that they have, all that they can, that they can do everything for you, to be your umbrella when it rains, and to be the warm spring during your coldest winters.

"Heaven's Cloud"

Album: Your Choice

"Your Choice" album is SEVENTEEN's eighth mini album, with six tracks that honestly feel like an out of a body experience once you listen to everything. "Heaven's Cloud," for instance, the album's first track, is surely whatever the gates of heaven are made of. The song alludes to heaven for the both of you, of your own, and the repeated lyrics of "give me your love cloud" fill you with emotions of happiness.

"Anyone"

Album: Your Choice

Of course, when we are talking about legendary B-sides, we have to talk about the third track of "Your Choice" album, "Anyone." From Joshua's intro verse down to the powerful main melody that weaved all the way during the whole song, it was a perfect song. Alongside the lyrics filled with determination that they'll choose you, not anyone, the choreography was phenomenal. And let's be honest, we all screamed more than normal when the special video was released, with all the members donning racer outfits.

"To You"

Album: Attacca

SEVENTEEN's ninth mini album, "Attacca," has given birth to a lot of unbelievably great songs, just when people thought things couldn't even get better anymore. The first track, "To You," will leave you smiling like crazy because, just as the title says, this is a song addressed to you. Among all the heart-fluttering lyrics, nothing could probably beat "If there's an eternal love, then you're that person."

"Crush"

Album: Attacca

If the first track of "Attacca" wasn't already enough to sweep you off your feet, then its third track is out to steal your heart. "Crush" didn't beat around the bush, telling outright that you're the crush and that even as the day passes, their feelings get bigger without a break. From genius rhymes, the repeating "you are my crush, I got a crush on you," to a jaw-dropping live performance choreography, "Crush" has it all covered.

"DON QUIXOTE"

Album: Face the Sun

SEVENTEEN's fourth studio album, "Face the Sun," flexes a flawless nine-song tracklist, and as the members do say, each song was a candidate as the title track. But probably among the many B-sides of the album, its third track, "DON QUIXOTE," received the most attention even way before its official release, drawing curiosity during the highlight medley. The song makes you wanna feel the vibe, and it will actually leave you in a daze, with its amazing lyricism taking references from the epic novel of the same title, such as the mention of La Mancha.

"'bout you"

Album: Face the Sun

Yet another track from the album, "Face the Sun," its seventh track, "'bout you," embodies what the members wanted the album to be an album of gratitude and love to all thirteen members of SEVENTEEN and the CARATs who have been there with them through the whole journey. The song is as what the song title implies; it's about you and how they feel for you, a melody made solely about you and only for you.

"Circles"

Album: Sector 17

SEVENTEEN's most recent album and their fourth album repackage, "Sector 17", which includes all the nine tracks from "Face the Sun" and four new songs. "Circles," the album's first track, is perfect, refreshing, and heartwarming. The song will make you feel truly emotional, which will make you feel that it is totally fine to have sad days, and eventually, just like as the clock circles around a day, things will eventually go back to their places. The ending part is so chilling, with Woozi's vocals and the voices of the children who took part in singing the song.

Here are some of the many SEVENTEEN B-sides you can enjoy and stream! To CARATs, which B-side song is your favorite, and which track would you recommend to CUBICs, casual listeners, and to fans interested in slipping into the diamond life?
