Fans defend former IZ*ONE member Miyawaki Sakura's performance in Japan that angered Korean fans

AKP STAFF

Following a hot post among Korean netizens criticizing former IZ*ONE member Miyawaki Sakura's performance in Japan that seemingly mocked Korean fans, fans have stood out to clarify the situation.

In one of the latest hot posts, the netizen claimed, "Anna Murashige is Sakura’s friend, and a member with an Otaku concept. As to why the sign was written in Korean, it is because Sakura has been active as a Korean idol till not long ago and has just returned recently, and many Japanese fans of Korean idols commonly write their idols’ name in Korean."

Just by looking at the fashion, it is obvious that this is a Japanese Otaku fan with an Uchiwa (traditional Japanese fan), as a Korean fan would have held a slogan towel instead.

This clarification has garnered a mixed response, with some supporting Sakura, and not understanding why that could have been an offending situation, “I don’t understand why people are feeling uncomfortable about this…,” “When I watched the video, I thought it was pretty funny…but somehow it became a debatable subject.” While there are still some negative comments such as, “Seeing Korean being used like this makes me uncomfortable,” “Never return to Korea, Sakura~ Don’t use Korean~.

What do you think of this situation?

If a white American were to be like this, with Korean signs and stuff, pretty sure the knetz would be all proud and “kpop is so international now, wow”. But a Japanese did it suddenly is “don’t come back to Korea”? I just can’t..
