Five 4th-generation girl groups which brought back 2nd-generation vibes in 2020!

STAR CONTRIBUTOR

Usually, when we're looking at new releases, we're expecting something fresh like apple-mint juice during hot summer days or at least something similar to current trends.

Now let's take a closer look at songs of five 4th-generation girl groups that brought back 2nd-gen vibes in 2020!

STAYC, the rookie girl group promoting under HighUp Entertainment, made their debut in November and already made us feel warm during rainy, cold autumn days. Their catchy and cheerful b-side track "Like This," highlighted by beautiful vocals, definitely brought pure joy to all fans who still remember top 2nd generation girl groups.

STAYC went viral on Chinese social media platform Weibo after one of the members of T-ARA Chinese Fanclub wrote that new girl groups seem to look and sound like "Little T-ARA," and it's hard not to fell in love with them.

Fromis_9 made their anticipated comeback after long 15 month hiatus. Girl group promoting under Off The Record Entertainment gave us not one but two songs, which made some of the fans thinking that they've just time-traveled to 2010 or even further back in time. What's worth noticing is that Fromis_9 gifted fans with two self-filmed music videos to "Weather" and "Mulgogi."

woo!ah! recently surprised many Kpop fans with a performance of their b-side track "I Don't Miss U" during the latest M Countdown episode. Not that their lead single "Bad Girl," was bad, but "I Don't Miss U" not only sounds better but also leaves a generally more pleasant impression. This is the way that woo!ah! should go if they want to utilize their potential well. This song and performance also show us that it's not always good to jump into the hype train of currently trending concepts, but it's worth trying something that might be long forgotten or underused in 2020.

IZ*ONE is the most popular and successful group on the list that also decided to bring back the bubblegum pop to the kpop. Everyone during the covid-19 pandemic has enough of quarantine, and I believe that most of us want to go to "Island" with friends, sit or dance on the beach, and have fun in beautiful azure water. Well, we might need to spend more time in homes than we expected, but thanks to IZ*ONE, at least we can close our eyes and imagine some fun times on the island.

LOONA members shine like a "Star," not only visually in the music video but mostly with their vocals, which created a unique cosmic vibe. Drums, hi-hats, and kicks used by producers in this song will make everyone remember songs from a decade ago. I bet most of you sang along.

"Starlight, starlight with you shining in my mind (Ooh-aah)."

13-14 years ago, this song would definitely top Korean charts.

Let's hope that 2021 will be at least on the same level in terms of music released by 4th generation girl groups. With the girl crush concept starting to fade away highway for other concepts seems already opened.

I really like these songs, I’m getting tired of girl crush concepts, time for something new to come round.
