#2YearsWithPromise trends number 1 worldwide on the second-anniversary of BTS Jimin’s solo song “Promise”

STAR CONTRIBUTOR

It’s been 2 years since Park Jimin dropped his first present for ARMY on SoundCloud.

At midnight of December 31 (Korea time), BTS fans started an appreciation event to commemorate the release of Jimin’s solo song “Promise.” Countless heartfelt messages of love and support for Jimin and his song “Promise” have been shared. Consequently, the hashtag #2YearsWithPromise trended No. 1 worldwide within 30 minutes only.

The hashtag trended No. 1 in major countries such as the USA, South Korea, Australia, France, Germany, and several other countries.

On December 31, 2018, while some fans were already preparing to welcome a new year, Jimin surprisingly released his self-composed song “Promise” on the free music platform “SoundCloud.” The release may be unexpected, but a perfectly written and sincere song such as “Promise” instantly made and broke records. The song exemplifies both Jimin’s remarkable artistry and massive popularity.

Promise had the biggest debut on SoundCloud history with 8.5 million plays and broke Drake’s record of 3.6 million plays. It debuted at No. 1 on the “Top 50” and the “New & Hot” charts for “All Music Genres and “Hip Hop & Rap” categories. Since then, Promise has become the longest-charting Asian and non-English language song and non-Hip Hop and Rap song on SoundCloud’s Top 50 and Top 200 “All Genres” charts.

SoundCloud also named “Promise” as 2019 “Buzziest Drop,” and it is the first Non-English Language and first Non-Hip Hop song to make such a record.

Currently, Promise is the second most played song on SoundCloud History and the most-streamed Asian and non-English song of all time on SoundCloud.

Check these for more of the impressive records made by “Promise”:

Jimin had previously shared the process of making the song “Promise.” He wanted the song to be a source of comfort for people.  Jimin thought about everyone's suffering and wanted “Promise” to be their healing song. As Jimin may have encountered difficulties during the process of making it, the outcome made it more special, and it is genuinely pleasing to the ears and truly healing.

Finally, fans made the most out of the celebration and made it more meaningful by donating to good causes inspired by Jimin’s previous donations. A fan club known as ALLFORJIMIN donated 10.13 million Korean won to Korea Leukemia Children’s Foundation to help treat children suffering from childhood cancer. Likewise, Jimin’s fanbase JIMIN DATA @PJM_data donated under Jimin’s name to two organizations in South Korea, namely Korean Animal Rights Advocates, and Korea’s Hope Bridge Disaster Relief.

Congratulations, Jimin, and Happy 2nd Anniversary to Promise!
