YG has trademarked the name “Baby Monsters”, and between YG announcing plans for a new girl group alongside the name formerly being planned for BlackPink, it stands heavily towards the new girl group.
It’s also been said that unlike their big sisters who dominate the girl crush concept, they will be aiming towards the cute concept, which would be a first for a YG group.
Baby Monsters isn’t the only group being made towards YG exiting their comfort zone, as Treasure is a 12 member Korean-Japanese boy band who’ll debut with youthful pop songs & have a flower boy image, as oppose to having the hardcore hip hop style their older brothers have. The lineup consist of Korean members Hyunsuk, Yedam, Junkyu, Jaehyuk, Jungwoo, Junghwan, Doyoung, and Jihoon, as well as Japanese members Haruto, Mashiho, Yoshinori, and Asahi.

YG is infamous for debuting girl groups with polar opposite images from the “Hot Trend”. YG debuted 2ne1 in a sea of girl groups with the traditionally “feminine” styling, such as Kara, Wonder Girls, and SNSD (the 2nd Gens National Girl Group). And debuting BlackPink in a sea of girl groups with brighter concepts, such as Red Velvet, Gfriend, and the Twice (the 3rd Gens National Girl Group.
Now with the trend of girl crush taking over with girl groups like Itzy, G-Idle, and Everglow existing, this could be YGs opportunity to stand out and bring back the cute concept.
YG has said on MixNine that they plan on debuting groups with an emphasis on Visual & Charm, alongside talent.
Many are excited to see this new girl group be introduced, and potentially become a representative of the newly formed 4th Generation of Kpop.
