Annie, the eldest daughter of Shinsegae Group Chairwoman Chung Yoo Kyung, has shared her candid story behind debuting as an idol.
On June 13, the YouTube channel ALLDAY PROJECT released a documentary video that follows the debut process of the co-ed K-pop group with the same name.
In the video, Annie opened up about the moment she decided to pursue a music career.
“I was seven when I accidentally came across the music video for ‘Lollipop’ by 2NE1 and Big Bang. It was shocking and felt like a whole new world opened up to me,” she said. “I remember thinking, ‘Whatever they’re doing, I want to do it too.’ That’s when I made up my mind.”
Despite her passion, the path to her debut was not easy. Annie revealed that her family was strongly against her decision to pursue an entertainment career.
“It wasn’t easy. My family was very opposed to the idea,” she explained. “But after I was accepted into Columbia University, I was finally able to persuade them.”
The documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the intense preparation leading up to the group's debut and highlights Annie’s journey from being a member of one of Korea’s most prominent business families to stepping into the world of K-pop.
