'Produce X' rumored to have a contract of 7 years

The 'Produce X' winners are rumored to be signing a contract for 7 years.

While there doesn't seem to be any confirmed reports, rumors are circulating that the winners of 'Produce X' will be signing for 7 years. There are some that don't believe the rumors, as this would mean that the trainees would basically be leaving their original label for good.

What do you think of the rumors?

my thoughts on this (if this is actually true) :

1. IF the trainees are not in plan of debuting in a group from their original label / not already in a group (NU'EST for example from season 2), i think it's fine.

2. this also depends on the companies the trainees are under themselves to whether accept it or not

3. 7 years is.... too much in my opinion. like, even with iz*one who have promotion of 2 and a half years people still complain that it's too long. can't mnet take a hint?

well its not a good hint. I mean if people feel iz*one 2years it long but wanna one 2years was too short and wanted them to promote more then how long is enough for a project group. should they just promote until people are over them? the time frame in my opinion should be based on the response and growing fanbase from the show. if they did 7years for season 2 and we got wanna one I'm pretty sure 7 years wouldn't sound long. we will just have to wait and see

I think the only way to have a 7 years contract is 1 - No one that is still active in an idol group is allowed to join Produce X. 2 - They promote for 7 years under Mnet or Swing...whichever company but will split profit with Mnet and their labels for those 7 years.

3 - Have mostly individual trainees like Jaehwan.

These are the only way for a 7 years

contract. Realistically its impossible for them to debut with Mnet and cut ties with their own label. No lable/company would agree to that. They will lose their pot of gold if the Mnet debut group and make it big.

I think the produce series shouldnt "cheapen" itself by producing new groups every year.. They should give their new group some time to grow and also amassed enough anticipation from the audience before dropping new seasons.. If they do this once every two years the impact is much greater..

yeah i doubt this is true. if this is this will be plain dumb.

1. companies bring their trainees to this program for exposure so when they get big, they come back to their original company and make them money. thats the whole point of them letting their trainees go.

2. if the company let them come here for a 7 year contract then what? this season are boys right? then by then they'll have to do military service and their original company will have no profit. until they come back and then will they even still be popular then with such a long hiatus?

3. honestly if this is true then i would say only agent-less hopefuls will audition because this will benefit them more. no comapny is going to release their trainees for 7 years unless their return benefit is very high. or their trainee is like 14

Tbh I think a 2 or 3 years contract is good. Whether they do well like Wanna one or not, 1 year and a half is really just a short taste. Even though once disbandment they might join or make another idol group. A year is really just enough to get a taste of what the entertainment world is like and getting to know I would say 70% of who your group members are. So I think Izone 2.5 years contract is quite acceptable. 7 years can be a bit much if the group ends up not doing well. And to be honest, if Wanna One did not have Daniel, they might not have made it so big and could have just been mediocre like I.O.I. Not to say that I.O.I or other Wanna one members aren't great or talentless but Daniel really is one of a kind idol. Izone has Sakura but even then they have yet to prove that they can reach Wanna One's level. And if Produce X consists of boys that are quite young. The young ones nowadays just dont have this oomph about them. Not much character and individuality. I believe that they will lose viewerships in the late 20-40's age group. There's such an overflow of groups debuting. Eventually it will be such a norm that people might start to get bored. Wanna one and Izone might be the last successful idol groups that Mnet produced.

Daniel isn't the sole carrier of W1's popularity. W1 was already very popular when they first debuted bcs produce101 is a korean show and therefore koreans watch it and so it's very popular in korea which is a very good thing for rookies. Just saying that even without Daniel, they'd still be very popular

If this is true, then the trainees on the show will have to be those without an agency or trainees who are leaving their agency. There is no way any of the companies would agree to a 7 year contract. At that point, it's not a temporary contract. It's a permanent one. 7 years is the length of time you hope that you're favorite group can get to and then overcome. A lot of groups don't even make it to that point. The companies aren't going to willingly send out their trainees for that. It will have to be the trainee's decision and a very risky one at that. If you make it into the final group then you're fine, but if you don't you're without an agency because they would have had to leave their original agency to go here. Also at that point there wouldn't be a reason to continue the Produce series since you would get a permanent group out of this latest one.

People complained that mixnine's 3 yr contract was too much... but then spend all their money on produce's 2.5 yr contract groups...

they saw how well W1 did so obviously they thought more years equals more money. groups tend to disband at the 7 year mark anyway and by then their popularity would have ran out. imagine if any of the produce groups could promote for that long... they would be bigger/can compete with the big 3 idol groups. i know its just a rumor but i could see it being true.

if they have no label like Jaehwan, then it make sense. otherwise...? although if it is true i suppose it could theoretically work out well, if the trainees are 1 quite young and 2 not intended to debut any time soon. the only real problem is that i think a big part of the allure for these temporary groups is that they are very temporary; people are aware that the group will only last 1-2 years so they really support them as well as they can.

Looks like Mnet want their own idols. (They already in bad terms with so called big names). They learn public hyped shows can make good money.Mnet is media emperor so media play can be easily done. They have their own award shows too. They made ideed so good group named W1. They made W1 so into public's heart. When they disband people become lot concerned about it. Mnet won their plan.....now there will be people who likes longer contracted group even if they don't like much about the survival programmes. Later they will strengthen this thought and stride to their target. It's true that having long termed contracts can be good for the members. Trainees who don't get chance in final line up but eliminated in mid way will also get popularity for them selves too. But at that time agency- wise debuted groups will have hard time gaining the public. Many talents will be missed to people. There is pros and cons for every thing.....Only sure thing is Mnet will get the planned big chunk.

No way! Either this is gonna be only for people who aren't in groups or it'll end up like Mixnine: nobody debuts.

Ot depends, if companies earned a lot of money from Wanna One than they'll accept it, especially that they'll just earn money and do almost nothing. But their earnings isn't that powerful than it's impossible.

uhm... what company would agree to send their trainees to this show?? The whole point (from the company perspective) is to send their trainees to the show, let them make the group so they can promote for a few years, and then come back to the company with their new-found fame to promote with the company (solo or in a group). If the contract after the show is 7 years, the company would get the trainee back SEVEN YEARS LATER. They will be past their prime, too old to debut again, and probably not a "hot topic" anymore.

lmao, MNET should just straight up become an agency at this pt. cos 7yrs is the basic contract length of most idol contracts.

i think its because many people are asking for WANNA ONE to be a perm group, so maybe this time, Mnet decide to invite only TRAINEEs from other agencies and if they are selected, it will be as if the trainees join Swing Entertainment (the newly setup agency by Mnet to take care of Produce 101 groups, similar to Stone Entertainment or Off The Record.

alll of which are under CJ anyway.

I'm not interested in project groups because of their 1-2 year contracts, but 7 is a normal contract for a permanent group. So I hope the rumor would be true.

Ok 7 years is too long..1.5 - 2 years makes more sense...this is no project group anymore, it's creating an actual permanent group...If rumors are true, to join this competition may be a golden ticket to some trainees tho, it's kinda like securing your job for the next 7 years, and start off with some level of popularity...But i feel uneasy about it I dunno why

If it's true, they want to make sure that no one will join who already had his or her debut, right? I know that nu'est got some hate back then at first.

I think it feel like not fair for ioi, wannaone and izone. 7years just too long. And also it’s going to hurt them later because they have to disband after such a long tine living together😕

If there is profit sharing it makes a lot of sense. Wanna One would have benefited from it - and I wish Mixnine did the same but obviously YG had a boy group in mind.
