Copyright trolls take down some of K-pop's biggest music videos on YouTube

Some of the biggest K-pop music videos were taken down by copyright claims on YouTube on January 15.

According to Forbes writer Caitlin Kelly:

"Top girl group TWICE experienced a temporary shutdown of three music videos: “Likey” is the fifth most-viewed music video by a girl group of all time. “Like Ooh-Ahh” was the nonet’s debut single that currently sits at 280 million views. Meanwhile, their latest single “YES or YES” became the seventh-biggest 24-hour debut on YouTube at the time of its release... BTS, the biggest boy band in the world, was affected as V’s solo “Singularity” vanished for a short period... The copyright caper also hit a handful of current and former YG artists. Jennie’s “SOLO,” PSY’s “New Face” and BIGBANG’s “Flower Road” all were deleted for an hour and a half."

The company behind this is an Indian company called Aiplex Software Private Limited.

A quick Google search reveals that this company is known as a "copyright troll." Numerous smaller YouTube channels have complained about false copyright claims from Aiplex since 2017.

The music videos were eventually restored after a few hours. However, fans are concerned at how copyright trolls can take down some of K-pop's biggest music videos (even temporarily). They want YouTube to review their copyright takedown policy as the system in place can be easily manipulated. There is also a petition to ban Aiplex from making copyright strikes on YouTube.

They've been doing this for YEARS to smaller youtubers. Youtube should have banned them a long time ago. Now it's an embarrassment for the company that the trolls got away with it.

In legal term they can be sued. If is in india it is even easier to get things done. Because all you need is to just hire a hitman on the owner.

Forget banning Aiplex from YT, this shady AF company should be forced to shut down completely and all their assets should be given to the channel owners whose businesses they tried to ruin.

G-Dragon and TOP'S "Knock Out" has also been taken down. The video is literally nowhere to be found. It's been gone for awhile now.
Also, how the hell did this company manage to take down, even temporarily, these KPop videos???? I have seen India (and other countries) plagiarize several KPop videos.
The fact that this Aiplex company is making false copyright claims should result in them being shut down completely.

That's because YG had copyright issues with both Playboy and Beats by Dre since they use "Knock Out" version of the logos & headphones.

@L_catzzz Oh wow. I remember hearing about that whole PlayBoy bunny thing. (Though I don't remember hearing about Dre.) I also remember how, when the song was first released, Korean media tried to get GD and TOP to do a different version because they (K-Media) thought that the original version was too inappropriate for any children or teens listening to the song. I do remember the symbol for "Knock Out" was the peace symbol, stylized in a way that looks like the PlayBoy bunny symbol. But I didn't realize that "Knock Out" had been removed from YouTube. I remember watching the mv again, sometime last year. I'm sure that it was on BB's official YouTube. The song came out, what, 7, maybe 8 years ago? It's odd that, after all these years, the mv was taken down.

YouTube can be quite heavy-handed in meting out punishments for violating their user agreements. I wonder how a well-known repeat-offender like this hasn't been k-lined yet.

Yeah... sadly it happens all the time. A week ago, a YouTuber tested his mic filters on a private stream and after he was done it got falsely claimed by an US based online music store. Turns out YouTube's "Content ID system" isn't that great *lmao* YouTube really needs to fix that whole system and punish these copyright trolls.

While I'm on the topic- why are you guys upvoting Azure_Aurora? She or he is coming off as incredibly rude and racist.

Let's not pretend that Indian I.T. isn't responsible for more online scams and organised extortion than Nigeria and China combined. Indian people are awesome, but in all truth India is a disgusting place. Their cultural heritage deserves better than to be covered in five feet of garbage, and their citizens deserve better than to step in each others' shite and smell each others' piss every single time they walk down the street.

Alright so a YouTuber did a breakdown of this shtick yesterday(I believe) and he brought up that while it is indeed the company's (they're apparently a service that investigates stolen content on the internet and files reports) fault that they didn't verify claims before sending in a copyright claim the people we should be most concerned about are the ones who hired/outsourced the Indian company to file copyright claims. However it is still very stupid and harmful, towards the companies and groups, that the ASPL company did not bother to actually investigate the copyright claims they were hired to file due to their incompetence and laziness.

I wonder what it feels like to be a troll, or in this case a copyright troll. What does a person get out of it? So they spend a chuck of their day maliciously filing copyright claims knowing that it'll cause a lot of problems for a whole lot of people? One can't have a properly functioning brain to do that. Either the part of your brain which is supposed to deal with empathy is underdeveloped, or your IQ is simply not above average.

Why good luck with that? For Instagram, you need to prove you're the copyright holder (show proof of trademarks that you own registered with the government offices, etc). On YouTube, one can make a false claim of ownership and things get taken down. The system is too automated, it needs more actual people involved.

1) you can't upload full length movies on Instagram so thats a terrible comparison

2) do you know how many hours of video are uploaded on Youtube per minute? FOUR HUNDRED do you really think they're gonna get people to review each and every thing when a chunk of it is people literally trying to upload the entire episode of x show or x movie? its delusional and frankly impossible for humans to monitor everything that is flagged on Youtube hence why its all done automatically
