Fans might be able to speak to an AI chat bot of their favorite SM Entertainment idol star in the near future.
On November 3, SM Entertainment revealed its latest collaborations with the Korea Creative Content Agency to combine artificial intelligence technology with entertainment and music services at a showcase held at the KOCCA Multi Content Testbed in Seoul. The AI idol star program called Celeb Bot is being developed by Scatter Lab Inc, and they're researching dialogue from the messaging app Kakao Talk so fans can one day have a natural conversation with AI idol stars.
According to Korea Joongang Daily, Scatter Lab Inc. CEO Kim Joon Yoon stated, "We are working on a chat app where users feel as if they are engaged in a real conversation with their idols. The machine will reply something like, 'You should have been more careful,' or, 'Are you hurt?'"
The project team 'Play with Error' also revealed songwriting technology that joins human producers with AI technology to create music. Team member Park Jung Bae commented, "A computer creates a piece of music and a musician can edit and complete the work."

Can you imagine having a conversation with an AI version of your favorite idol star?

The idea of having conversations with AI versions of K-pop idols is both fascinating and a bit surreal. For fans, this could be a dream come truebeing able to "talk" to their favorite stars anytime, anywhere, with responses that feel personal and caring. It's a creative use of technology that could deepen fan engagement and offer emotional comfort, especially to those who view these idols as role models or sources of inspiration.
However, there are potential concerns about how realistic and emotionally dependent these conversations might become. While it's exciting to see artificial intelligence being integrated into the entertainment industry, it's also important to maintain transparency. Fans should always be aware theyre interacting with a bot, not a real person, to avoid confusion or emotional misinterpretation.
Overall, SM Entertainment and Scatter Labs Celeb Bot project marks an innovative step in fan interaction. If developed responsibly, it could redefine how we connect with artists in the digital age.
