[Song & MV Review] Changmin "In a Different Life"

CHANGMIN IN A DIFFERENT LIFE

Track List:

1. In A Different Life
2. In A Different Life (Inst.)

Changmin has just unveiled his solo track "In a Different Life!" He is the second of the legendary duo TVXQ to release a solo single under SM Station. The first, of course, was Yunho. The singer himself wrote it, and he dedicated this song to his fans, thanking them for sticking by him while he was in the military.

Unlike Yunho's more upbeat track, this one is instead a tender ballad. An acoustic guitar keeps the time, along with some embellishments from a traditional piano. It's certainly beautiful and soothing.

His vocal style is very emotional and emotive. It sounds very different from some singers who are just going through the motions, and the overdubs to compose the harmonies make it even better. Changmin sounds incredibly vulnerable here, emotional and raw. He still manages to hold to this throughout.

And so does the whole production. They never drown him out, and he ends with a little more oomph than he began with. The song is quite soothing, and agood remedy for your ills. It's not too long either, so if ballads aren't your thing (they certainly aren't mine), then this might be for you. It doesn't break new ground, but it doesn't meander either. Overall, a quality tune from Changmin. Cassies should be pleased.

MV REVIEW

There's one word for this MV: gorgeous.

What can I say that watching won't describe for you? The framing devices where he's the centerpiece, walking along the beach at sunset where he is merely a silhouette amidst the waning sun, and the clouds reflected in a clear patch of water, casting all around in reddish hues.

I'm a fan of these types of MVsbecause they do transport you to a different place. Not a hastily-constructed box with dark and obvious shadows when they flood the set with light, no; just a beautiful and reflective time walking, the camera lazily panning over the scenery.

There's no dancing, no obvious clothing change, and no tricks other than the genius filters on the camera and the sense of cinematography that put this together. Absolutely fantastic work. And worth more than just one watch, just to set aside your fears for a time and listen to a good song to go right along with the MV.
