Cha Tae Hyun's father Cha Jae Wan was invited onto 'Video Star', where he revealed that Cha Tae Hyun talked a lot on broadcast only because he was paid to do it. In fact, Cha Tae Hyun is so quiet at home that his father once even asked him if he should pay Cha Tae Hyun so he'd talk more at home.

His father said, "That was at first. Now both of us just stay quiet. I see it all on broadcast and say, 'I heard it on TV before'. He was a pretty quiet person from when he was young. But he talks a lot on broadcast, so I watch it because I'm amazed."
