Actress Seo Shin Ae revealed that she entered university after passing the entrance exam at age 19 on KBS2TV's '1 vs. 100' broadcasted on March 14!

When the MC asked, "You turned 20 years old this year; however, it seems you became a college student last year?"  Hearing this, Seo Shin Ae replied, "After junior high, instead of going straight to high school I decided to take the college entrance exam and was accepted into university at age 19."

As for homeschooling, "My parents were against it. But I did stick to a plan and I wanted to become an actress. I was interested in learning different languages at that time so I discussed it with them."

Seo Shin Ae explained the reason behind taking the entrance exam, "High school is the next step into college. But I didn't want to hinder any of the students because of me missing out on school days from my busy schedule."

When asked whether or not homeschooling was difficult, she commented, "I actually took my time studying for a month and took the exam. I received a perfect score in English," surprising the audience.

Okay, so i just googled her and she will be turning 19 (born in 1998), which means she got into a college when she turned 18. I don't get it. Isn't that super normal. I got into a college when I turned 18 just like my peers and my cousin got in when he turned 16. He did skip high school. But still I had some collegemates who actually graduated from college when they were 16. Graduating from college at the age of 16 is actually crazy to me.

Speaking from a Korean myself, The education system is different in Korea so you are considered a high schooler when you are 19 in Korea (: normal university entrance in Korea is 20 or older.

Oh really, I didn't know that. Very interesting.

Lol, they would be shocked if they hear that I will enter university at the age of 17 xD

in korea, yes haha! but american system is normal (:

I guess it might be a big deal in korea..I guess elsewhere is normal. I got accepted into college at 17 (I finished highschool a year early). Its much more difficult for me to find part times than going to school. I had to lie about my age in the resume LOL..

Aw she's so cute and so grown up! I don't like how Koreans add so many years to their age though. She's like 18...

Is that unusual? I went through the normal process of high school as well but ended up in college by 18, and I wasn't even the youngest in my class

trickyblues starempress Tuesday, March 14, 2017

Maybe it wasn't translated properly? To my understanding Koreans add 2 years to their actual age, but even then that is only 17 and yeah I know people who were 17 when they entered college.

apple_blossom starempress Tuesday, March 14, 2017

That's her Korean age.

rachelyl trickyblues Tuesday, March 14, 2017

You're a year older than the age you'd be turning in universal age that year. So for example if you're born in 2000, you'd be turning 17 this year, so you're 18 in Korean age. Most people go to college when they're 20 because they're 19 when they're a senior.

starempress trickyblues Tuesday, March 14, 2017

But to emphasize that she went to college even by 17, is that something unusual? Don't most people go to college around that age?

Miawruu starempress Wednesday, March 15, 2017

Because is rare for celebrity especially if she/he really busy with their career but can entered university so fast (without entered high school first). Especially korean exam is really difficult n she passed with good score. That why people is amazed with her.

Most people in Korea go to college around 18 in international age.
