Another controversy has arisen over a K-Pop idol seemingly doing 'black face.'

A recently dropped preview for Chinese program, 'Fan Heart Attack Idol TV,' has grabbed a lot of attention as fans have taken offense at what appears to be UP10TION member Kuhn dressing up as a girl with 'black face.'  Although some fans argue it's unsure whether he personally did it or it was punishment at the hands of his other members, most fans seem to be appalled at the act. Some fans have taken extra offense because apparently, he and another member are turning into "ugly girls," the result of which is Kuhn with black face.

A snippet of the preview has been posted, as you can see below.  The video has otherwise been deleted online for the most part.  The full episode has yet to air, so it may provide a different story, but it appears that the show's outlet has decided not to air the controversial portion.  What are your thoughts on this incident?

Humans are really weird and naive. I understand that you will believe everything you see,but if you are a Honey10, why would you think they are trying to portray racism? What happened was, Kuhn and some other member were chosen to look like "models." Kuhn's lipstick was done by him but other than that, the members did his makeup and for the other member, his team did his makeup. I mean this was a competition between two groups of five. This show is obviously called "Fan Heart Attack," for a reason and I necessarily don't think he was trying to portray a "ugly girl," but to give Honey10 a good laugh and being embarrassed made it more funny,so I don't think he was trying to be rude to African-Americans or any type of race. People have their opinions, but the facts you base upon your opinions have to be VALID or of course, it's not going to make sense. I would watch the show if I was you and actually see what really happened because this is all just one big misunderstanding and I don't really understand why Allkpop had to bring this up again, but this group is gonna have anti-fans and I'm gonna be the Honey10 that I am and support them. But this comment may not be seen by anybody and not make much of an impact, but I have said what I wanted to say.bYEEEE

I think its all about Korean culture thing for Korean the standard of beauty is to have fair skin many advertisement protest pale as good looking and they even have whitening products Say for example tayeon of snsd once said that she wants to past her pale skin to her kid and think it's her advantage Kim heechul  of sj is always proud of his milk skin don't blame me sone elf it's just an example I myself is elf too so there js no need for me to bring heenim downI am not saying up10room did nothing wrong yes they are racist but the whole Korean society is like that    they should really learn from this experience to accept different culture it's normal that people hate them because we will all be offended if we are criticized just because of our skin tone but I think it is also normal for people to have preference of color (I am not saying its right but its normal) but u should not say it openly especially when u are an idol and many are influenced by uSorry for long para and bad eng I am honey10 up10tion fan  yet I think they owe us an apology hope they'll learn from this

Noonealone Monday, May 23, 2016

For short I think it's Korean culture to prefer pale skin and many idols like taeyeon and heechul and advertisement selling whitening products emphasize the beauty standard But as an idol even if u have preference on one color u should not say it openly becuz many are influence by you therefore although I am a fan I think they should apologize

bangtanct17 Noonealone Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Again, their preferences do not matter. They are idols on national television, and people worldwide will be watching. No matter if they prefer pale skin or not is absolutely no excuse for their actions.

Noonealone bangtanct17 Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Please read my words carefully I didn't say they should have any excuses I just think that it's a culture thing and they do not realizes it as an idol they should learn from this experience and apologize to be a good role model

"I think its all about Korean culture thing for Korean the standard of beauty is to have fair skin many advertisement protest pale as good looking and they even have whitening products" Instead please choose your words carefully then because it very much sounds like you're justifying painting his face black to resemble am ugly girl.

Sorry if I hadn't use the right wordings I didn't meant to And let's stop here and do not argue

Allkpop always trying to start drama smh. People should watch the last 5 minutes of the episode at least before judging. He wasn't doing blackface. All the people attacking him need to find something better to do instead of attacking an innocent person. 😒

mintjulep ValeriC Friday, May 27, 2016

But how were w e supposed to know he wasn't doing it if that's all we were shown? It's not like it's uncommon for racist and colorist actions o be done in kpop. What happened in the last five minutes to validate his actions anyway?

Well, I know Im really late but this was recently brought back up on twitter. What happened was Kuhn and another member were chosen to be "models" is should call it. Their make-up wasn't done by him, but by 4 other members. I don't necessarily think it was used to represent an ugly girl, after all it is called "Fan Heart Attack." I think it was just for humor, and not humor on African Americans, but on how weird he looks, and how embarrassed he is just adds to the humor. The picture shown in this article is him trying to make the Honey10 laugh, after all, it was a competition between two 5-player teams of up10tion. This isn't really... valid? I mean true, people have opinions, but the facts that they base on their opinions also need to be valid, and I highly doubt Up10tion's goal was to be racist, especially when they have so many international fans that support them. This was probably just a huge misunderstanding and I don't get why this got brought up again, but anti-fans are going to hate, and the Honey10 will just keep supporting them. This isn't something that is extremely important so in my opinion, its best to just ignore this.

I'm sure they had no bad intentions , ended up being offensive . He did wrong and I think he should apologize , but seeing all these hateful comments makes me feel bad , we are all human beings make mistakes and learn from them , so do not start to judge the whole group.

blip_fan10 Sunday, May 22, 2016

For those saying it's not blackface, there is a specific difference. In this case he painted himself black to portray an ugly girl so yes it is racism and blackface as it had specific connotations towards skin color. A counter example would be G-Dragon in the Coup'D' Etat video where black was used as a contrast to his white album cover in 2009 and therefore not blackface as he wasn't referring to skin color.

Culture appropriation is everywhere sad story. -.-

Small_mango Sunday, May 22, 2016

I really want to get over this but there has been no apology. It really bothers me and I feel like I can't love up10tion as much anymore. Looks like Monsta X is my new bias group
