With its star-studded cast list and stellar feedback, IRIS has been topping headlines for a while now, but today the spy drama is creating a buzz for a completely different reason. On December 7, the hit KBS production company behind IRIS was accused of plagiarizing The Sun Doesn't Rise on Mt Fuji, a spy novel by Park Chul-joo. The novelist filed the lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court, claiming, "The story plot and developments in IRIS severely plagiarized my novel in over 162 cases. I've suffered mental distress and have lost the opportunity to make [my novel into] a drama myself." Some of these allegedly plagiarized occurrences brought up by Park include the danger of a nuclear detonation in the middle of a city, a confrontation between the protagonist and a North Korean spy that blooms into a romance. This isn't the first time that IRIS has been involved with legal conflicts - back in October, the series also worried fans when it faced copyright conflicts as well. It's a bummer to see such a beloved and respect drama be linked to plagiarism, but if Park's allegations prove to be true, then proper measures should be taken. What do you think?
