We reported about Kim Nam Gil playing the role of Bidam in Queen Seon Duk and a little history about his character. Kim Nam Gil tells us a bit more about his convincing portrayal of Bidam which has already won him a legion of fans despite appearing in just a few episodes thus far.
Bidam is a deeply polarized character, who can be really kind-hearted in one instance but turns into a killing machine if provoked. Kim Nam Gil said, "Bidam is someone who possess the intellectual and wit of his mother Mishil and the awesome fighting skills of god-like character Munno. He is a complicated character that stands on the line dividing good and evil. I hope that I will not disappoint."
He explained further, "I am playing my role as a hybrid of the character, Miyamoto Musashi in Japanese manga, Vagabond and Han Bi Kwang from Korean manga, The Ruler of the Land. I am relying on the intensity of the manga characters to bring out the charismatic feel of Bidam so there's some manga influence in my portrayal."
In between breaks during filming, Kim Nam Gil will take out the above-mentioned comic books which he brings along with him, and then analyse them for use in the drama. He said, "I now recognize that the structure of a story is very important."
The charming, comical, deadly Bidam might be your favourite character at the moment but don't be too sad in the future when he starts veering to the dark side.
