A while back, Jun Ji Hyun's management company, Sidus HQ, duplicated her phone so that they could listen into all her calls and see her text messages. It made headlines and many were outraged, saying that this was an invasion of privacy and it created a lot of negative publicity for the company (although Jun Ji Hyun renewed her contract anyway). It also sent the country into a mini-frenzy about phone duplication and privacy, and many consumer awareness talk shows were showing people how to prevent phone duplication (although I doubt anyone would want to stalk a non-celebrity to that extent). Two people in Sidus HQ, Mr. Jung (56) and Mr. Park (41) were found guilty of illegal duplication through an illegal business run by a certain Mr. Kim. In November of 2007, they paid him 6,400,000 KRW (roughly $5,000) to hack into the actresses' phone and install a program which enabled the management company to see through all of her personal calls and messages. After news of this reached the media, the company was put under the netizens' radar, and after a long investigation, Mr. Jung and Mr. Park were found guilty by the courts. They admitted to the crime saying that they wanted to know the truth about Gianna Jun's personal life and relationships to make sure that she wasn't doing anything to hurt the company's image. Right. I bet they just wanted to look through her personal pictures. On the other hand, Sidus HQ's president, Jung Hoon Tak (41) got off scotch-free because they couldn't find any evidence on him. Although entertainment companies always control their celebrities' lives to a certain extent, they shouldn't go to the extremes. After all, a huge star like Jun Ji Hyun wouldn't be doing something that could hurt her own image. It's good to know that justice prevails even in the land of K-pop.
