Kim Yuna could be rewarded the gold medal from the Sochi Olympics after all?

Remember how everybody was in an uproar following the results of the '2014 Sochi Olympics' when Adelina Sotnikova took the gold medal while Kim Yuna took the silver? Looks like the fight is not over even two years after the fact.

On December 24, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) revealed that they were investigating into the possible doping of 28 Russian athletes during the Olympics.  If this is the case, then the many medals the Russian athletes won would be passed onto those who placed immediately after them. A list of those who secretly substituted their urine samples was created and on that list is the name of the gold medalist figure skater, Adelina Sotnikova. If indeed she is discovered and proven to have been doping, the gold medal would be passed down to silver medalist Kim Yuna automatically.

On top of that, IOC claimed that based on the results of the investigation, Russia's representative teams and athletes would be prohibited from participating in the '2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.'  The IOC is also planning to reexamine the blood samples from the athletes who participated in the 2010 Vancouver competitions.

Gian-Franco Kasper of the IOC stated, "Russia's behavior is severely harming the purity of sports.  We will find a way to take proper measures against this."

Meanwhile, in the 'Sochi Olympics,' Russia gathered a total of thirteen gold medals, placing first.  In the case of doping being proven, Norway, which was second, would then place first in the 'Sochi Olympics.'

God bless the universe! One of the few good things to come out of figure skating this year, what with the current judging system just completely throwing artistry under the bus and obscenely rewarding technique for no other reason that they are executed. FINALLY, SOME JUSTICE IN THE WORLD.Even if Sotnikova ends up not completely guilty (like IDK it turns out she was given drugs by accident or whatever), this should still open up investigation on Russia's disgusting, shameless cheating.Long live the queen!!!

I'll be honest, I was never really into ice skating, but it changed after yuuri on ice. I'm hoping someone dresses up as victor or dances to the song history maker for the 2018 Olympics.

Even if you're Russian, you have to admit that Kim Yuna gave a much better performance than Adelina Sotnitkova.

The Russians always cheat, it's nothing new. The judges were also Russian so they are obviously gonna be biased towards the Russian athletes although Yuna was much better

This might sound like a dumb question but can someone explain to me how the IOC will determine if doping was present? If Adelina did substitute her urine sample, then the IOC would have to ask Adelina to give them a sample of her urine again. If Adelina gives the IOC her urine, is it possible to know if doping was present two years ago just by studying it? How does this all work? I am genuinely curious.Putting that aside, I still believe Yuna should have won gold.

They are retesting the 28 athletes' samples because they have found evidence of sophisticated tampering of the "impossible to tamper with" samples. Mainly there is very subtle damage to the bottles like unexplained scratches where the lids were pried off. Note that the news is that the investigation into these athletes is underway, There is no positive dope test for most of them at this point. The samples can be tested in present day, but they are not going to find anything, since literal Russian State agents would have switched the vials if allegations are true. The athletes could be punished though if it's proven that they participated. So the samples are only part of the operation, they will rely on whistleblowers, pressure, etc

Nope; new evidences were found to corroborate earlier speculations. Not to mention, the investigation finally released names whereas they haven't done so before.

But if Yuna does get the gold (WHICH SHE SHOULD HAVE THAT WAS BULLSHIT STILL NOT OVER IT #NEVERFORGET) she wouldn't be getting it because her performance was better, she would get it because the other girl did drugs, you know what I mean?
