Twins separated for 42 years find each other thanks to police officers and citizens!

Buzz

A woman who was separated from her twin sister recently reunited with her twin and birth family after 42 years!

Kang Ji Young, who was living in Woolsan, Korea, walked into the Woolsan police station with her husband on October 23, asking for help searching for her family. She stated, "I found out that I was adopted 7-8 years ago...Then recently, a friend told me that she ran into someone who looked exactly like me 4 years ago, in front of a supermarket." Convinced that person washer long lost sister, she reached out to the police officers for help.

At first, the officers were not sure how to go about with the search; Kang Ji Young knew nothing about her identity except for the fact that she lived in Busan when she was young and that she had a twin sister. Then they decided to make flyers with Kang's photo with the message, "I am looking for my twin sister. If you know someone who looks like me, please contact the police."

The police officers spent two days going from house to house, passing out flyers, concentrating on residents near the aforementioned supermarket. They also posted the information on social media. After just two days, a crucial tip came into the station. A 56-year-old woman saw the flyer, brought in by her husband, realized that the woman in the photo looked identical to her neighbor from 4 years ago. With the new evidence, the police officers wereable to track down a 42-year-old Ha Mi Young.

The twin sisters, separated when they were just 6-months-old, were reunited on October 27, in front of the Woolsan police station. Ha Mi Young and her mother hugged and sobbed in happiness. The mother cried, "Thank you for finding us. I am so sorry."

The sisters with striking similarities -- not only in height and facial features but also in hairstyle and clothes -- finally got the explanation for their separation.

The mother shared, "42 years ago in Busan, we were so poor that we couldn't raise both twins. We gave the younger twin to the next door neighbor to raise, but one night, the neighbor moved in the middle of the night without telling anyone. We didn't know where you had gone...On holidays and whenever I looked at the older twin's face, I thought about you. We couldn't talk about the twins in the family because it was just so sad."

Kang Mi Young thanked the police officers by saying, "Since I realized that I was adopted, I tried to find my family, but nobody tried to help me...but these officers helped me immediately."

The police officers said humbly, "We just did our duty as cops."

The citizen who provided the important tip to reunite the sisters will receive an award from the police station.
