Producer Park Sung Hoon of SBS 'K-Pop Star' sat down for an interview with Sports Chosun

The long-running competition series recently came to an end with its 6th season that was branded as "The Last Chance." Park Sung Hoon PD, who took charge of 'K-Pop Star' since season 1, shared about the ups and downs of the program.

When asked about the struggles he faced while working the show, Park PD named BoA's departure as the greatest difficulty of all.

He explained, "The most difficult time was when BoA left the show due to her schedule and Yoo Hee Yeol joined in replacement. But that moment was also an opportunity. The BIG 3 labels, SM, YG, and JYP, played a critical role in the program so at first I was worried a lot and thought of it as a crisis. However, as you saw, we overcame it after Yoo Hee Yeol joined and moved one step forward."

Lastly, Park PD was asked if the 'K-Pop Star' series is truly over. He answered, "Many asked me that. I feel like the reason so many ask that question is because it's too early to end the series. I appreciate the attention but currently, I don't have any plans (for additional seasons). I don't think we would be able to decide on it first unless we come to the point where the viewers really want it. The destiny of all programs and broadcast are in the viewers hands..."

it sounds like he was more concerned with losing 1/3 of the big 3 and finding a worthy replacement than actually losing BoA herself.

The absence of Queen BoA is a difficulty we Jumping know all too well. But she ALWAYS makes the wait worth it. ;)

I think it probably wasnt her decision to pull out of the show, rather its SM's decision, but she was also able to focus on other things like her drama and her solo album when she pull out, so i guess as the youngest of the 3, she has more to do, for her own career than being a judge for others, 4 years ago.

When the Queen leaves, the nation will obviously be in peril.

Nah, I think Antenna gave more balance, all the talented musician are Antenna's responsibility, Hip Hop forte for YG and Dancing for JYP.

I agree Antenna gave more of a balance but a lot of talented individuals ended up in YG and JYP too!

I have always had this question. The winner gets to debut with the label of their choice. what if the winner already has representation? How would they be able debut if they are already under contract?

For seasons 1-5, the rules didn't allow existing trainees to compete, so the winners were unrepresented and could choose to sign with one of three agencies. For season 6, the rules changed, and existing trainees were allowed to compete. In season 6, if the winner was already signed with an agency, then they go back to their agency after the show. If the winner wasn't already signed and wants to join one of the three agencies, then they would discuss it with that agency, but nothing is guaranteed like it was in seasons 1-5.

Season 6, IF the winner has already a label, the rules was that he or she will release an album with the agency of choice i think. maybe thats why the viewers rather pick someone without a label, because then he or she will have a label to join, while if the winner has a label already, he or she merely release a album with JYP, YG or Antenna and then go back to his/her agency.

The production checked the contestants background if they already signed they can't join, only this season 6 they've allowed trainees of other labels, if Trainees became a winner they will only release mini-album/single unless YG, JYP are eager to buyout that trainees.

Don't get me wrong, I like Antenna but when the other two judges are focused on groups, losing SM was a huge loss to the show and Antenna artists were at a disadvantage.

I like that Antenna was apart of the show because it gave a chance for young ballad singers to join.
