The reverse roles of JYP and FNC Entertainment

Two major entertainment companies are going head to head this season.  With JYP going with an overall band theme, whereas, FNC is more dance oriented.  In order to mix things up it seems the two will be switching genre forms this year.

JYP Entertainment has been famous for its popular lineup of artists mainly in dancing.  Starting with Rain, Noel, Byul, with the inclusion of boy/girl groups, like g.o.d., Wonder Girls, 2PM, miss A, GOT7, and TWICE, all have received much love from fans not just through music but dance choreography.

Starting in 2015, JYP Entertainment's main focus was on band creation.  Regrouping into 4 members, Wonder Girls returned with a new album titled, 'REBOOT,' in which the girls changed their concepts 180 degrees.  Adding more rock into the twist, Wonder Girls went from girl group to officially girl band.  News regarding the variation sparked great interest among fans alike.

However, the different reactions from the public did not stop the girls from going full force.  In just a short span of time, Wonder Girls was able to demonstrate their remarkable skills in drums, bass, and guitar.  The band's most recent song, "Why So Lonely", clearly resonates the retro genre deep within listeners' hearts, celebrating their 10 year anniversary.

Boy band DAY6 debuted last year.  Being JYP Entertainment's first band, each member is utilizing their gifts in lyric writing and music composing, shown through their album.  Furthermore, the boys are working extra hard to establish the band's identity by performing live at concerts.

On the other hand, FNC is well known for its exquisite bands such as CNBLUE.  Just last year, they compiled a survival project "d.o.b." through Mnet.  The winning team debuted as SF9.  Apart from previous bands like FT Island and CNBLUE, SF9 appears to be giving off a different vibe.

AOA also debuted as a girl band.  Swapping between band/group concepts, the girls broke off their sluggish chains, which seems to be a reoccurring topic among netizens, depicted in "Get Out" and "Moya."  And gradually succeeded in transforming into a dance group with "Short Skirt," "Short Hair," and "Heart Attack."  After member Youkyung left last year, AOA returned as an official girl group consisting of seven members and released their first full album 'ANGEL'S KNOCK' just days ago.

What are your thoughts on the shifting dynamics with JYP putting more focus on bands and FNC putting more focus on dance?

FTisland should be more popular because they are a real band, Day6's songs often don't even sound like they are a band and I love them but that makes me uncomfortable

Wonpil plays a Synthesizer, why is probably why it doesn't "sound like a band" in your opinion

I don't get the point of this article. Yeah sure FNC is starting with dance groups but CNBlue and FT Island are still bands who are still promoting as bands. Yeah sure JYP is starting with bands but they have a lot of dance groups still promoting. They both branched out, no roles is reversed.

DAY6 is just too underrated for being the first boy band ever produced in JYP. I listened their last year album and it's just as good as CN Blue's. in fact, i prefer DAY6 songs these days compare to the "new" CN Blue

You may prefer Day6 no problem is personal taste, but wanting to put on the same level as a band that survived in kpop at 7 years is a lot of petulance. Cnblue and FT island were winners in the kpop taken by dance groups. This in itself is an extraordinary feat, so less Day6 has much still to learn to be a Cnblue or FTisland.

To be honest, I generally don't like the dance-theme of kpop and I became a CNBLUE fan by watching their concerts. They are great! Very energetic and truely talented in music. Day6 is good too, but I don't get the energy from them.

And I must add that for me, dance groups who know only how to dance with no talent in music, is the most terrible part of kpop!

For band music, i still think fnc artists are more matured. Their artists are more expert in their instruments. For example,  cnblue's jonghyun and ftisland's jonghoon are very good at guitar, but for day6 and wonder girls, they havent shown any complexity in their music (such as guitar solos). Fnc bands have been training together for almost 10 years, so im not sure if the jyp bands realky master their instruments

Have you listened to a Day6 or WG album??? Day6 especially shows complexity in their song composition and WG shows complexity by being able to play different genres. How many Korean bands play retro styled music from 80s to Reggae? 1. WG.

Obviously you're not an FTIsland and CNBlue fan. They've done it, playing different genres. Go to Youtube and search FTIsland concerts and lives and tell me if what you just said now is the truth.

Exactly! CNBLUE lives are the best! I'm into kpop for 3 years and still there's nothing else that can even be compared to CNBLUE lives!

Which means you have not watched Day6 live. They sound better than the studio versions of their songs and even performed in the streets on a regular basis.

All they do is strumming chords and such and their drum patterns are like beginner level, of course they will sound great live. Ft island and cnblue always rearrange their songs for live performances, that shows their sincerity.

And also, cnblue is an indie band before debut, unlike day6 and wg, which are 'packaged' by jyp

I was trying to use nicer words in my first comment but your blind supporting just pisses me off. So i will just say that, day6 and wg are bad at their instruments, until they show me something

One of my friends is JYP fan in general and she recommended to watch Day6 live videos. Well I liked their title song, but their lives was ordinary to me. I'm not saying they are bad at their instruments or anything, I'm talking about something beyond just playing the instruments.

I don't think FNC is neglecting FTIsland or CNBlue. They can never do this to these two groups. FTIsland's concerts for this year are already set. All CNBlue members have dramas to release or film. They are still the biggest money makers in FNC. In case you don't understand, these two groups are quite popular internationally. As for the "switching genres." I think both companies are just expanding their horizons. You can't say FNC is more focused now in dance groups coz they plan to debut Honeyst aka Neoz Band Team this year. It's not switching, it's expanding. Two very different words.
