SM Entertainment has issued an official announcement refusing any form of support (lunches or snacks sent during music show rehearsals, etc) or birthday gifts for their newest rookie unit, NCT U

The label stated,

Hello, this is staff in charge of NCT.
We thank all of the fans who cheer on NCT.
We've made a final decision regarding all of your questions to support NCT, in that we will not accept any support or birthday gifts.
If there are any forms of support that you have prepared, we will kindly refuse, thanking you for your kind gesture, so even though you may be disappointed, please understand and follow our request.
The members of NCT will do their best to repay you by putting all of your love and adoration for NCT in their hearts, and promote diligently.
Thank you again to all the fans who cheer on NCT.

While some fans have expressed disappointment toward the news, saying, "They should've told us sooner" or "Now we have to return and refund all of the support and funds raised", others seem to be understanding of the label's decision. Fans noted that in SHINee's case, it was the group's decision to refuse forms of support or gifts, which ultimately led to the label issuing an official notice.

Fans will find more creative ways to celebrate their birthdays; they always do!

I do wish they told their fans sooner. But, I don't see why fans by their idols expensive gifts. I can see why they did make that decision especially after that member was and probably still is called a scammer

but if they're not reciving gifts and food from the fans, who's gonna feed them and clothe them? SM sucks at taking care of its idols, they're gonna starve to death now. Poor boys.

Finally! Seeing fans spend ridiculous amounts money for idol members when giving that to charity would be able to change so many people's lives! Every time I see that fans opened a gallery for a birthday or rented a screen in  huge mall or whatnot in "honor" of an idol , I wonder what is wrong with the world...

It's already better that they keep that money to themselves and their family rather than spending it for somebody who is 20 times richer than them already.

I have an idea. You don't have to return and refund all of the support and funds raised. JUST DONATE IT. I'm sure they will appreciate that. (I know they won't read this, they aren't on allkpop lol)

yup!!! i find donations to be more endearing and I'm sure it will make the idols feel good knowing that they exert a positive influence on their fans :)

GOO HARA (KARA) recently got 'burned' on RE-GIFTING a fan donated WINE BOTTLE to a personal friend of hers. I suppose it would have been 'better' if GOO HARA had broken the WINE BOTTLE on her CAR BUMPER, and 'christened' it "The KAMILIA MOBILE!" ... ;-)

*ALL* the K-pop Groups should have a DESIGNATED *LIST* of approved CHARITIES. And their FANS can DONATE MONEY to one those CHARITIES. Thus, NO 'RE-GIFTING' ISSUES! ... ;-)

I can actually understand this decision, lately there are so many rumours/problems regarding fan gifts, so SM might just want to try to keep their idols out of trouble and I don't think it's a bad thing. (Seriously, imagine how many gifts the members of popular groups might be receiving, it's plain impossible to keep them all due to storage space problems. But idols aren't allowed to throw or give anything away - because they have to value the fans' feelings... I always wonder where popular idols store the thousand and thousands of gifts they receive.) Regarding the food... Maybe some of the members have allergies against some food/food ingredients, so it might be dangerous for them to eat food that is sent by fans? And I can still remember incidents of idols being sent to the hospital because of food sent by antis, so I always thought that it might be dangerous for the idols to eat whatever is sent to them. (When I was a child, my parents taught me to never accept food/drinks from a stranger because there might be something in it.) And if you saw the pictures of idols receiving like 10 or more birthday cakes, were you never wondering how they are going to eat all of them? On top of that, I don't understand why the fans are complaining regarding already existing funds. They could just donate the already raised funds in NCT's name, so they would be doing something good.

so many problems caused by gifts over the years, I understand the decision and I guess there as a legit reason behind it, also, I always wonder where these gifts go when their dorms are somehow small?

How about *perhaps* that some (a lot?) of the fan gifts end up say ... in the TRASH CAN? ... as *perhaps* some fan gifts to K-pop Group ZE:A seemed to end up that way. AKP ARTICLE --> ... http://www.allkpop.com/article/2010/03/fan-letters-and-gifts-for-zea-found-in-the-trash

Then there is the 'Will the FAN GIFT maybe EXPLODE like a BOMB?' issue. I forget which IDOL that it was that drank the 'fan gifted' SODA POP that had been POISONED deliberately.

The 'COFFEE and DONUT Truck' at the restricted location 'fan gifting' idea seems to work pretty well. As long as they use a PREFERRED CATERER ... ;-)

regarding the ZE:A issue, because they used to live in the basement of their company before getting dorms, the cleaning staff and CEO got rid of the gifts, not the members themselves. I don't know about the explosion and poison issues though. also, one more thing, why can't the idol give the gift for someone else if he doesn't need it instead of leaving it piled up there? it's so stupid.

The "exploding" *insinuation* by me, was in a JOKING manner. Do NOT think that has happened yet. Although, IF it did, my *guess* would be that AGENCIES do NOT want to make it PUBLIC. As to NOT give others ideas of how to get THEIR '15 minutes' of SASAENG FAN 'fame.' ... The SODA POP can that was poisoned, is a real event though. AKP has done some SASAENG fan behavior based ARTICLES. I'll post a URL here soon.

Anyway, my view is that *all* the K-POP Groups should have a *preferred* CHARITY LIST on their websites. And FANS are TOLD PLAINLY to make a FINANCIAL MONEY contribution to the CHARITY; and NOT send a gift to them. And that ANY GIFTS may NOT even be seen by the IDOLS. And will be DISPOSED of by STAFF in ANY MANNER that they choose it. Including to 're-gift' it; or TRASH CAN it.

Do you suppose NCT U refuse gifts because of hate males and stuff? I know that SHINee refused it cuz they didn't want their fans to spend too much money but in the case of NCT U, I can't help but wonder because of the recent controversies.

Also SHINee wanted the money donated to charity. Maybe I'm over thinking.
