INSOLENTLY, GO GO - EPISODE 12 (FINALE)

Ha Joon pushes everyone away, but Kim Yeol assures him he doesn't want to lose him as a friend, no matter who he's dating. The Ministry of Education meets at the school to conclude their investigation, and the parents throw Soo Ah's mom under the bus. The Ministry also disbands the cheerleading club. When Ha Joon protests to his dad, his father locks him in his room.

Yeon Doo decides to get the group to go to regionals anyway and tells the kids they don't have to come. She and Kim Yeol kidnap Ha Joon. When his father catches up to him, Ha Joon reveals scars where he cut himself and told his father he used to hate himself, but he won't be hit anymore, even catching his father's arm when the man tries.

They get to regionals and almost don't get to perform, but Teacher Nam begs the admissions guy, and they get in. They place last, but they get a standing ovation, the rumors of spec stacking forgotten. Everything's right again. The cheerleading club is reinstated. Ha Joon's father starts getting treatment for his abusive tendencies. Soo Ah's mother is under investigation for corruption, but the girl sends her mother love texts to cheer her up. The principal's lackey gets to be principal, but is replaced after 3 days. Teacher Nam is rehired, Teacher Yang has his contract extended. Dong Jae gets over his phobia and plays basketball again while Soo Ah watches and cheers him on. Kim Yeol's dad and Yeon Doo's mom reignite their romance, even as Kim Yeol and Yeon Doo continue theirs. And everyone lives happily ever after...

So they wrapped everything up with a nice, big bow. Just in time for the holidays. :) It's nice to see a drama with a happy ending. And the writers found a resolution for literally everything. Not only that, they found time for the adorable little details that make this drama great. My brief synopses don't do these shows justice, this episode in particular.

One of the things that made this show great was the relationships. Ha Joon's relationship with his father was heart-rending and had me outraged. Yeon Doo and Kim Yeol were positioned as rivals at first, but it took a little time for her to see that he cared and that he was a good guy. Soo Ah had things in common with Ha Joon, and Dong Jae saw some good in her as well. Yeon Doo's mom and Kim Yeol's dad also shared some tender moments together, as well. Kim Yeol and his dad finally make up in this episode. And the devil wasn't so much in the relationships themselves, but the details, the cute moments where they tease each other, or snuggle close, or cheer one another up where the writing really shines.

I've written about Soo Ah's mother before, and she seems pretty humbled by her experiences, finally. I worried, frankly, because it seemed she hadn't changed. But with through facial expressions in the wrap-up montage, we finally see that she has indeed become a mom, rather than just a ruthless fixer of her daughter's future. It's just a little sad that her daughter's attempted suicide didn't do anything for her, but being investigated for corruption did? How cold do you have to be?

The Ministry of Education investigates the allegations of spec-stacking.

I'm happy. I got the resolution I wanted, though at several points in this episode everything seemed to be falling apart, which is perhaps a great trick by the writers. Let's tear down their world, bit by bit, and then build it back up again, where things are even better than before. Which makes sense, I guess; you have to demolish the old and crumbling edifice before you can build a newer and possibly better one.

It was a heck of a ride, and now finally it's over. Like all good dramas, I want it to continue, but I don't think it deserves a second season. Hopefully it put a smile on your face. All the kids went on to their third year, teachers are still in place, and they still get to be cheerleaders. There's no reason to have anything additional, really. I just know that I enjoyed this a lot, and hopefully you guys did, too!
