At a press conference, Jung Chang Hwan of SM C&C discussed the label of 'SM Drama,' a stereotype that SM artists are cast as the main leads of a drama for teens produced by the agency, and how he wished to cast this image aside with the upcoming drama 'Prime Minister and I,' starringGirls' Generation's YoonA.
On December 6, Jung Chang Hwan said:
"I think when we make a production at our company, it becomes labeled as an 'SM Drama' . . . I want to cast this image aside with 'Prime Minister and I.'
I think there is a distorted view that dramas produced by SM C&C have SM Entertainment idols appear as the male and female leads as well as target a young audience.
It was asked whether Chief Lee Soo Manhad intervened so that even when he met the writers, there was sense that they would use SM idols as the protagonists and write a story for teens . . . 'Prime Minister and I' will become a project that will break this stereotype.
'Prime Minister and I' is a romantic comedy and family drama combined . . . You will probably enjoy it more and more as you watch it . . . There are a lot of strong competitors, but we want to create a production that will be assessed as 'That drama was created very well' even after time passes."
The first episode airs on December 9!
When you think of SM C&C dramas, do you have a certain stereotype in mind?
