Ever since the merger between Woollim Entertainment and SM C&C, music fans have been eager to learn whether any more mergers may be coming about, and the simple answer is probably yes.

This shouldn't be a surprise as with the previous merger, SM Entertainment, the biggest shareholder of subsidiary SM C&C, clearly revealed their hopes of becoming a leading global music group like that of Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group.

In order to reach such a level, SM will need to bring in several agencies under them to become a major label or a group like the aforementioned three.

One previous report mentioned that insiders in the music industry claimed, "With Woollim as a start, there is a rumor that several companies will be going under the SM label. There are several that are already being discussed. Although many agencies are venturing into the overseas market riding on Hallyu, it's hard for them to catch up to the know-hows and network of SM, who has built up a long history... Making good music and producing singers is a separate issue from marketing them. If they are able to distribute these responsibilities through label mergers, then it is a win-win situation for everyone."

Regarding all this, an SM C&C rep did not deny it, but also didn't give specific details as he said, "As we have started a label business, we will be pursuing more label-joinings with various companies. There is a possibility open with various companies. Through this project, we look forward to an effect of simultaneous growth between SM Ent and various labels."

Since this article, a more recent one has surfaced, naming three companies in particular among the mid-tier agencies that are currently being discussed for a merger: J.Tune Camp (representative artist: MBLAQ), Starship Entertainment (representative artist: SISTAR), and WM Entertainment (representative artist: B1A4).

A rep from one of these companies is said to have cautiously responded, "It is true that we have discussed with SM before, but nothing has been decided upon."

The article mentions that it seems like these companies are waiting to see how it works out for INFINITE, TASTY, and NELL under Woollim. If SM can help INFINITE's new world tour see much success, it's expected that the next merger for SM may happen soon.

How do you feel about all this? Is there a specific company you'd want to see join in?

Infinite, MBLAQ, B1A4 and Sistar are all some of my fave groups... it makes me kind of sad to see all of their companies merging with SM C&C, all of their companies are doing just fine managing them on their own anyways :(

This matter just died down after all the hate....Anw it's impossible that starship merges with SM as they are already under LOEN.Although woolim is already confirmed to join SM,LOEN did want to get infinite under them too but of course woolim decided to join SM instead. :(

Bring Evol back with the merger and I'm Ok. Not like I'm bothered by it. Just don't fuck groups over. ( Evol is with Starship yea?)

I think all of those other smaller entertainments can do absolutely fine on their own. Once someone owns you, it's going to be miserable. Yes, SM is really good when it comes to promoting their artists but successful artists like SISTAR and INFINITE has already proven that you don't need big companies like SM to go big and I hope it continues to be that way. I mean, if this really does happen, I feel really bad for whoever is planning to audition because there's definitely going to be less entertainments around for you to even do your auditions...and you know what they say about SM auditions...looks seem to be play a big factor.

Not just SM, most companies go for the looks. 70% or more looks, it's just a bonus if you can sing or dance.

Sistar doesnt need it. They're already doing fine on their own. If Sm ent. needs talent, go look for more. Im sure there are whole bunch willing to be their zombies.

For gods sake. This isnt the way to go if Sm. wants to be #1 in Asia.

No SM C& C is not SM ENT. They just own a big chunk of the company

The best thing to do truly is to see how the woolim and sm merge works out. However, if too many companies are merged together sm loses the smtown image. Not that everyone was buying that, but still.

bringing all these amazing bands under one company is just plain and simple stupid. SM is try to create a monopoly. Whenever i think about MBLAQ or B1A4 i have certain images in my mind like MBLAQ being all dorky and handsome, while B1A4 making me smile with their energetic performances and cute charm. They have their own identities and they don't need SM .. If this keeps up SM will slowly dominate the kpop industry and then where will kpop music be ?

that's a valid point

It is not a monopoly they are seeking, but rather the ability to compete with the true big three in the music industry. That is the global big three Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. These are three American music corporation which are the largest in the world. But SM C & C are not the only ones trying to move to compete with the Big Three, Loen Entertainment reorganized themselves a label corporation for the same reason.

I'm utterly worried that SM entertainment might change the way the company, especially WM entertainment work. Cuz I like how WM is handling things now and I wouldn't want them to change in any way. Not that SM is bad but... I hope the singers get to do their own style of music you know. However, on a positive note, SM will be an advantage for marketing and exposure. So yeah... I have mixed feelings about this.

call me crazy but I think this has more win than loss to it. i HIGHLY doubt SM will change any of those groups styles, considering those groups have relatively strong markets, all they'd do is help in improving it and market more. SM would NEVER make it as to upset fans, after all the fans are who give them business in the first place. SM knows how to market, so really these groups would only be gaining more exposure while being under a larger stronger company. I don't really see the negative in this at all.

As long as they don't change their music styles, it'd be fine. Come on guys, they're doing business and they're selling us music. Yeah, we love the artists as well but it's not them but their company who's deciding on this. The real problem here are those immature fans who kept bashing SM and the other companies."Doesn't deserve to be SM" "SM is the bad guy" stuff should stop. It's not like we can do anything about it. Look at Infinite. Many people turned it into a bloodbath but it didn't change anything. Though it would be nice to see my bias groups under SM because all of them are like, leading the music industry and stuff. And I've read one comment about the trainess, how about Woolim, WM and SM's trainees? O.O Fighting!
