The first line from singer/songwriter PSY's comeback track�"Right Now" shouts, "Very aggressive music... What the... take out the autotune from my throat." Because he withdrew from the music scene for four years, PSY was able to observe the increasing use of autotune and could no longer hide his surprise and disappointment. At the press conference for his fifth album, PSY stated,

"While preparing for my comeback, the use of autotune concerned me the most. I know that it's become a worldwide trend, but I can't help but wonder how those artists sing on stage. Still, I was able to earn confidence from artists like Kim Tae Woo and DJ DOC, who do not use autotune. I thankfully realized that there's still a crowd out there willing to welcome your raw, live voice."

It has become increasingly difficult these days to find songs that don't use autotune, particularly since the Korean music industry is saturated with idol groups. Industry representatives gave mixed responses on the issue and were mostly divided; one side stated, "It's fooling the ears of the public," while their opponents argued, "Just like how dramas and movies go through a heavy editing process to deliver a stronger feel, autotuning is yet another process for music fans." Famous producer Jo Young Su elaborated on the issue in a recent interview with Star News.�"2NE1 has faced a lot of criticism for using autotune in their songs, but they're already a team that has had their talents acknowledged," he said. "They should not be receiving such backlash since they purposely added autotune under the belief that it fit their song and improved it." However, he went on to state, "Still, singers that use it to hide their lack of talent are definitely in the wrong. Music fans are able to check vocal talent through MR-removed videos anyway. Instead of using autotune as a sort of shield, they should improve their skills first."
