Singer WOODZ, one of the strongest contenders for the #1 spot on Melon's 'Year-End Chart' for 2025 with his massive hit "Drowning", appeared as a guest on the September 17 broadcast of MBC's 'Radio Star', greeting viewers for the first time in a while after his discharge from mandatory military service.
On this day, the MCs asked, "A song that you released before your enlistment climbed up the song charts while you were in the military. How did it happen?"
WOODZ explained, "During my military service, I performed for an Armed Forces Day special episode of 'Immortal Song'. That video went viral on YouTube."
He also added on, "But actually, I wasn't in my best form that day. I performed around 9 o'clock, which is around the time that soldiers prepare for bed. So my throat had closed up. I had to force my voice out. I think it was because I looked so angry on stage that day that people resonated with the song."
Next, the MCs asked, "Did you feel anxious, since your song was topping the charts but you couldn't do anything about it in the military?"
To this, WOODZ answered, "Actually a lot of people expressed pity for me because of that. But for me, it was really the first time that in my career that I was receiving this kind of attention. It was the best thing ever. I thought, 'I can just do my best again once I'm completed my service'."
